: Chapter 74
“No wait!” I whisper-shouted, but they were shut and I heard the lock clicking into place. I could feel my face heating up from the awkward situation.
“Don’t be shy, darling.” I cleared my throat and turned around slowly with my eyes cast down on the floor.
“What can I help you with?” He groaned with a winded voice.
“I was wondering—“
“Look at me when you’re speaking.” He ordered, and his voice turned darker.
My head slowly tilted up, and my eyes dragged over the girl sitting on her knees with her hands on his legs; then I saw her hair tangled in his hand which rested on top of her head, helping to push her down.
When I looked all the way up, I saw that he was already watching me. The shadow of a grin was faint, but it was there, and his cheeks were red from the blood flow and the pleasure.
“I was wondering if you’d see Justin,” he pulled her head back slowly and wiped her lips with his thumb.
“You can leave,” he said to her, but she only whimpered and stayed seated.
“But my King, I’m not finished.” She pouted.
“We’ll continue later,” he helped her up on her feet.
“Do you promise?” She purred and pressed her chest against his front.
“Leave.” He said sternly. She smiled seductavley and walked out through the back door.
Nahtnaiel stood naked on the top of the platform, and I couldn’t help the blood that rushed to my face. He was an idiot, a martyr and a tormentor, though nobody seemed to understand that here. Here, he was the king.
He stepped down form the podium with everything hanging free. He took slow stride over to where i was standing until he was close enough to reach out and brush his fingers against my cheek.
He leaned down and drew in a sharp breath.
His hand tangled in my hair, and our bodies were pressing against each other.
“I haven’t seen him, but you know that you’re always welcome here with me if ever you feel lonely.” Nathaniel breathed. He leaned back with a stoic expression.
“Thanks,” I wanted to get out of here and hopefully not look at something that I shouldn’t be looking at.
I turned around, luckily my eyes immediately hit the door and I went to open it. I pulled down the handle and pulled but it wouldn’t open.
“Hello? Can you unlock the door?” I asked, hoping the girl was still there.
“Hello?” I pulled a little more, and I knew that if I used my strength, I could bust the door open no problem, but how would Nathaniel respond to me breaking his door?
“She won’t open it until I say so.” I turned around and glared at him.
“So say so then!”
“That is no way to talk to your king.” He said jokingly and lifted his head. He turned around and strutted over to where his pants laid in a pile on the floor next to his throne.
“What’s the hurry?” He inquired while putting on his linen pants.
“I came here to see if you knew where Justin was, and you don’t, so my business here is done.” I pulled the door again hoping it would’ve somehow unlocked itself.
“Do I need to tell you again?” He said, and I heard his heavy steps moving towards the snack table that the girls had prepared for him.
“No.” I groaned.
“I’m glad you came, I’ve missed you.” My brow shot up toward the ceiling, and the befuddled gaze in my eyes was impossible to hide.
“Why?”
“I haven’t seen you today,” he said.
“Right,” what the hell was he doing?
Nahtnaiel was playing at something, but I couldn’t tell what it was. Reading his emotions and his next moves was hard.
“Come here, have a seat.” I had nowhere to go; the door was locked, and they wouldn’t unlock it unless he told them to, so the options were slim.
I walked over and sat on the low stool on the floor, and Nathaniel sat on the other one.
He poured me a cup of tea from the white kettle; the cups were adorned with golden flakes, and the spoons were golden with amber-red crystals on the handle.
I stirred the sugar in my tea and watched as it melted into the liquid.
“You and Justin have been hitting it off, haven’t you,” he stated.
’Watch your tongue’
I know
“I’m not sure what you’re insinuating, but we’ve become good friends, yes. Is that a problem?” He shook his head and pouted his lips.
“Not at all. I’m glad you’ve bonded with the people here, it helps when integrating into a new pack to have people you trust.”
He stretched his right leg and had the other bent with his arm resting on his knee as he lifted the cup to his lips and took a sip. His eyes met mine in a soft gaze.
The emerald pendant around his neck dangled as he leaned forward.
We sat there in silence for a good few minutes, reading each other. It was the only way to see past the words we spoke. Words aren’t always honest, especially when you don’t trust the person you share them with. So, knowing a person’s intentions is a good way of not getting played for a fool. “Have you heard from your family?” I could tell he’d put thought into his question; he wanted a reaction.
“I haven’t. Don’t see how I could.” I said in a monotone voice. “Right.” He said and nodded his head.
“How about Kade? Have you heard from him?”
’No reactions’
“Same answer.” My voice had an edge to it that I heard too late.
“Do you miss him?” Yes, every second of every day my heart aches from not seeing him.
“No, he chose another, remember?” Now it was I who wanted to see a reaction. The last thing that happened before I came here was Kade choosing Danielle over me, or at least not dismissing her as an option. I refused to be an option. I had seen the nursery on the fifth floor and heard how they’d spent the night there together, and after that, I ran. I left the pack, I left Anna, and I left Kade; not to mention my family who still knows nothing unless Kade has told them.
This was all that Nathaniel knew about our story; he knew nothing that happened after I came here, and he would never find out.
“I’m glad. It seems you’re truly becoming one of us now.” He said and furrowed his brows.
