Chapter 1556: The Gift
Chapter 1556: The Gift
Camille raised an eyebrow, and Jordan pointed to the coffee table, then asked hesitantly, "How did you know it's my birthday today?"
After saying that, he snapped back to reality and smiled. Camille didn't say much about his smile and simply replied, "Mrs. Bailey also cares about you." Jordan nodded; he was well aware of that fact.
The two sat on the sofa around the coffee table, unsure of what to say in their solitude.
The atmosphere briefly settled into silence, and their gazes met, both of them smiling without any prior arrangement.
Jordan said, "Let's have some cake!!!"
Camille replied, "Sure, sounds good."
Jordan opened the cake box and asked Camille, "Do you want candles?"
Camille responded, "Of course! It's a birthday celebration, so candles are a must."
Having said that, Camille began placing the candles on the cake. She also had a lighter, so she lit them directly. She looked at Jordan and said, "Make a wish!!!" Jordan replied, "I don't have any wishes left. I've achieved everything I wanted."
Camille insisted, "How can you not have a wish? Make one, like how much money you want to earn this year or the car, house, or anything else you desire."
After Camille's casual remark, Jordan changed his mind and said, "You're right. I should make a wish."
Jordan clasped his hands together, closed his eyes, and started making a wish, but he couldn't voice the desire in his heart.
He remained silent, glanced at Camille, blew out the candles, and silently wondered if she would still be sitting here with him on his birthday if she knew that his wish was related to her.
Seeing this, Camille quickly handed him a knife and fork and removed the candles from the cake.
She said, "You can cut the cake now."
Jordan took the knife and fork and sliced the first piece of cake. He passed it to Camille, but she shook her head and didn't reach out her hand. She said, "The first piece is for the birthday boy. I wish you health and happiness!!!"
A simple blessing that countless people long for.
Jordan thanked her and placed the first piece of cake in front of himself before cutting another piece and handing it to Camille.
He said, "Thank you for celebrating my birthday with me. I'm very happy."
Camille replied, "You're welcome. The only regret is that I can't have dinner with you tonight because I already made plans with friends."
Jordan said, "That's alright. It already makes me happy that you can have cake with me. But can I treat you to a meal? As a thank you for celebrating my birthday with me. There's no rush, we can eat wheneve you're done with everything, okay?"
Jordan sincerely looked at Camille as he made the request, leaving the decision entirely up to her. He wouldn't pressure her, nor would he decide on a dinner time and expect Camille to accommodate him. Camille thought about his request seriously. She hadn't decided how many more days she would stay here. She had dinner with Sophia and others tonight, and tomorrow she would handle the handover of work. Tomorrow evening was free for her.
Camille said, "Tomorrow evening works. I'll have time after finishing my work."
"Okay, tomorrow evening it is," Jordan immediately agreed without hesitation.
However, right after he finished speaking, Camille suddenly remembered something and said, "Oh, aren't you going on a blind date tomorrow evening? Will it affect your plans?"
"No, I've already rescheduled it for tonight," Jordan quickly replied.
Camille nodded, indicating that she understood. But after taking a bite of cake, she added, "I wish you a successful blind date. The other person must be great; otherwise, Mrs. Bailey wouldn't have arranged it. Jordan merely responded with a noncommittal "Hmm," seemingly not wanting to discuss the blind date further. Camille assumed that their relationship hadn't reached the level of close friends, so it wouldn't be appropriate to ask more.
Camille had already eaten cake in the afternoon when she received a call from Sophia. Sophia said she would pick her up in two hours and suggested they watch a movie before having dinner. Camille agreed without any issues, confirmed the time with Sophia, and then told Jordan, "I'll be in my room for now. I made plans to go out with a friend later."
Jordan nodded and Camille headed towards her room. Before leaving, she expressed birthday wishes to Jordan once again. She felt a bit embarrassed for not preparing a gift and for eating Jordan's cake. So, she decided to go shopping after dinner to find a suitable gift that wouldn't put pressure on the other person.
After returning to her room, Camille took a shower, changed into fresh clothes, and applied light makeup. She finished tidying up and realized it was almost time.
After half an hour, she met up with Sophia. There was only Sophia in the car, who said, "Dan still has some work to finish. He'll meet us directly at the restaurant later."
Camille nodded and handed the specialty product she had brought from Hance City to Sophia. She had decided the previous night, on a whim, to have someone buy it for her before coming to Dane City. It was something Sophia used to enjoy in Hance City.
Camille was a very considerate friend. She could remember her friends' preferences and knew their tastes well.
Sophia accepted the gift and placed it in the trunk, then said, "You're definitely a better friend than Ayan. He's quite cold-blooded. Of course, I mean he wouldn't be like that towards friends or you, especially since I've seen how caring he is towards you!"
Camille smiled but didn't say anything. She knew Ayan was good to her, but she also knew he hadn't contacted her on his own for three days.
The thought weighed on Camille's mind, and she took a silent breath. Her face showed a heavy expression.
Sophia didn't notice and continued talking. She had taken over Rapace Group completely and was very busy with work every day.
The two of them went to see a movie, one that had recently been released. They had already seen it once in Hance City, so Sophia remembered it and purposely invited Camille to watch it together. When they arrived at the cinema, Sophia had booked a private room for two. Camille couldn't help but laugh and say, "Honestly, it's my first time watching a movie in a private room."
"Keep it down," Sophia explained. "I've been really tired lately, and I'm afraid I might fall asleep during the movie. What if I start snoring later?"
"You don't have to accommodate me like this. We don't have to watch the movie if you don't want to. I just came to Dane City to take care of some things and wanted to meet up with you guys for a meal." Camille explained softly, and Sophia immediately responded, "I want to watch it. I want you to accompany me. Does that make you feel more comfortable?"
Camille smiled and didn't say anything more.
However, Sophia didn't fall asleep in the end. Perhaps it was because the movie had an exciting and thought-provoking plot, a suspenseful film that kept the audience engrossed and prevented any drowsiness After the movie ended, it was almost time for dinner, but Dan still needed about an hour to arrive. So, the two of them decided to browse around the nearby mall since it was in the same building as the restaurant.
Camille thought about buying a gift and asked Sophia for a recommendation for a suitable men's gift store in Dane City.
Sophia chuckled and said, "Even when you're out having fun, you still think about getting a gift for Ayan? Cami, that's not good. You'll spoil him!"
