Chapter Chapter Thirty One
LYRA
"What?"
Biting my lip, I nodded, eagerly. Alexander grinned, wildly, as him and Dyami fist bumped before they engulfed in a man hug.
"My man," Dyami beamed. "Congratulations!"
I smiled in awe, but my eyes diverted to Zynthéa who was in shock. "Oh, wow. Congratulation, guys," she finally weeped, before she attacked me with her hug. "I am so chuffed for you."
I hugged her back, and thanked her in the process, already feeling tears pool up in my eyes again, but I had promised myself I wouldn't cry.
“Extending the Rathbornes, not so bad, huh?” Zynthéa said to Alexander, grinning.
Alexander shrugged, his eyes on me as he embraced Zynthéa quickly. The genuine smile on his face made me almost melt at his feet. I couldn’t wait to raise pups with this man.
Zynthéa, Dyami, Alexander and I spent the whole morning together. I was cuddled up to Alexander on the sofa, with me practically sitting on his lap, with his arms around me securely.
Dyami and Zynthéa were seated on another sofa, and Luca had fallen asleep.
Dyami had told Alexander the ins and outs of what had happened. Apparently, all the wolves from Sirius Pack were pretty much dead. But after having spoken to Jonathan, on behalf of Alexander, Dyami said that in actuality, many of those wolves had been rogues rather than wolves from Sirius.
Jonathan wouldn't allow for the beta and his wife to plan an attack on our pack, because he loved Alexander. So, the beta and his wife had been 'travelling' to find rogues to help with the attack.
Jonathan didn't feel remorseful that his beta was dead. In fact, he had said it was a shame that a wolf he trusted would turn that way. But apparently, it had been long time coming and he had already replaced him.
Alexander had noticed the frown on my face, and pecked my pouted lips until I had ended up smiling. Not just because I was expecting now, but he promised that he wouldn't let me ever overthink anything again, and that he would always protect me.
Aspen was trusted, apparently, he had played a big role in helping to lessen the severity of the attack since he had contact with someone from Sirius who knew what was happening. He had told Dyami everything, and Alexander made note to go see him later.
In the meantime, Aspen remained in place, spending time with Kai and was still getting to know the pack. But it was reassuring to know that he could be trusted, even if I hadn’t really doubted him that much.
Dyami's voice must've caused for me to dose off, because my eyes lazily fluttered open when I felt myself being carried.
It took me a couple of seconds before I came to the realisation that my injured mate was the one carrying me.
I pulled my head back to glance up at him, earning a genuine smile from Alexander. "Hey, sleepy."
"You shouldn't be carrying me," I said, sleepily, my voice croaky. "You're hurt."
"I am never too hurt for you," he replied, cornily, before a grin covered his face.
We had reached our bedroom by this time, and he ever so gently placed me on the bed, before he pulled the duvet up to cover me. Finally, he sat seated on the edge of the bed, and gently stroked my cheek with his index.
"So beautiful," he murmured, his eyes glistened as he lustfully glanced at me. "All mine, and the pup."
His eyes travelled to my mid-section that was covered by the duvet, before he let out a chuckle, almost as if he still couldn't believe it. His eyes were glistening, and it took me a second to realise there were tears in his eyes.
I frowned, before I pulled myself up, fully awake now as I wrapped my arms around his large shoulder. Alexander immediately wired his arms around my waist and brought me flush to him, his head nestled in my neck where he inhaled a couple of times.
"I love you," I told him, my voice hardly above a whisper. "Everything that you have done, has always been to protect me. The pup and I are so lucky to have you, and starting a family with you-" I pulled back to glance up at him, only now realising, my own set of tears were threatening to spill. "Starting a family is the beginning of our lives together. I wouldn't want this with anyone else, Alexander."
The corner of his mouth tugged slightly, before he dipped his head and pressed his lips to mine. "My perfect Luna," he murmured in to the kiss. "You are everything and beyond what I could have dreamed of. If anyone will make a good mother to our pup, it is you."
By this point, I was full blown tearing. Alexander and I ended up having a very corny and cheesy rest of morning, before both of us cuddled to sleep. In that moment, I felt incredibly lucky. A family with him was beyond any imagination that I could have even dreamed of.
With that, my mate and I fell asleep.
Later on in the evening, after feeling much more energised, I had decided to invite everyone around to share the news with them. They were all practically family and I didn't see the point of hiding the news from them.
The shocked faces on our loved ones was picture worthy. Ava practically tackled me, and Alexander had to pry her off of me, snarling at her for getting a little too physical.
“It’s fine,” I promised Alexander, when he wouldn’t unlock his arms from around me so that I could attend to the shocked auburn haired girl, who was glaring at my mate.
“She is unsafe around my pup,” Alexander retorted, giving Ava a glare of his own. “You will not be allowed near her if you continue acting like an animal.”
Ava rolled her eyes, whilst I slapped Alexander’s chest lightly. He snapped his head to cock a brow at me.
‘My Luna, care to explain why that was necessary?’ he asked, in our mind-link, but a smirk was already tugging at his lips.
‘Be nice! That’s my best friend.’
He didn’t have time to respond, when Ava, practically pulled me out of his embrace, and taunted, “In case you have forgotten, we are animals, Alpha.” Once she had me secured by her side, she continued, “Which means, I get a free pass on being as animalistic as I want.”
I chuckled at her behaviour, my eyes on my mate, and I was stunned when he ended up chuckling himself, shaking his head at Ava.
“Take care of my girl, alright?” he told my best friend, before his eyes found mine and softened, immensely. “She is all I have.”
His words made my smile completely disappear, and I felt a knot tie in my stomach, but I didn’t have time to ponder on his words when Matteo, Jaxon and Dyami attended to my mate and lead him away.
Ava hugged me incredibly tightly, making my focus divert on her. She was beyond ecstatic, and was already thinking of names for me.
“I should wait to have my wedding so I can have a flower girl, or a boy, to help me down the aisle,” she beamed, excitedly, as she munched on a chocolate bar.
It was odd seeing her eat chocolate, the girl didn’t really have a sweet tooth, but I was happy to see her have fun, so I didn’t comment on it.
“You can’t wait for that long,” I reminded her.
The pup wasn’t even born yet, and my stomach wasn’t showing, meaning I still another three or so months to go. And from there, it would take a year or two before the pup would be able to walk.
“Trust me,” Ava assured, leaning her head closer to me. “An Alpha pup is a different breed, they will be ready for my wedding.”
I arched a brow at her, wondering why she would know so much about an Alpha pup, but I completely lost my track of thoughts when Jaxon embraced me, without a warning.
“Congratulations, Lyr,” he told me, once he pulled away. “I suppose being an uncle isn’t that bad of a thing.”
“Count your blessings,” I cheekily replied, grinning.
“Is it a blessing?” he questioned to wind me up, before he chuckled when he saw my reaction. “It is a blessing, I’m kidding, Lyr. Relax.”
“How are things with Evan?” I asked, as I nodded towards his mate in the distance who was playing with Luca. “He seems good with pups, you thought about a family of your own?”
Jaxon’s eyes softened as he turned to glance at his mate, a smile tugging at his lips. He looked so damn proud in that moment, as if he could cry in awe at the sight before him.
“Honestly,” he said, exhaling a shaky breath. “I was thinking of proposing soon,” he whispered, leaning to my side, making me gape at him in shock.
“You’re joking!”
“Oh, well fuck,” Ava interjected. “Who would have thought Jaxon would be the one proposing. You have it bad, don’t you?”
Jaxon’s brows pulled together and he gave her an odd look, before he shook his head, unbelievably. “He is amazing. We have talked about pups, and the orphanage have pups that would really benefit with parents.”
At his words, my eyes immediately welled up with tears, and I reached my arms out to embrace him. “Oh, Jax.”
Ava was crying by this point as well, and she manoeuvred so she could engulf us. We must have looked like a trio of insane wolves, standing by the kitchen island, crying and embracing.
“Do I want to know what the three of you are planning?” I heard Alexander’s voice, as he tried to pull me out of the embrace, clearly envious that it wasn’t his arms I was wrapped in.
“Hey,” Jaxon whined, throwing his hands up in the air in frustration. “She was our best friend before she became your mate.”
Alexander had me by his side and wrapped his arm around my waist securely, before he narrowed his eyes at Jaxon. “Correction; she is my wife and soon to be mother of my pup.”
My eyes were on Alexander’s blue ones that were shooting daggers at Jaxon, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at his response, feeling him pull me closer to him. It was all worth it, especially when Jaxon made a sound of disgust and disappeared, probably back to Evan as he muttered something under his breath.
Ava gave us a dirty look of her own, faking a shudder as she also disappeared, leaving Alexander and I alone.
“At last, I have you to myself,” he murmured, brushing a strand of my hair out of my face. “How do you keep getting more beautiful by the day, hmm?”
His words made me blush. I was pressed up to him, with his back leaned against the kitchen island and me wrapped in his arms. I couldn’t ever get enough of him, and with our pup currently developing inside of me, everything finally seemed to be piecing together.
Like we were finally getting the break we deserved, and with that thought, a single tear trailed down my cheek as I stood on my tiptoe and kissed Alexander.
