Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Natalie recounted her experiences in detail over the past few months abroad to Brianna. The more Natalie listened, the more puzzled her expression grew.
Despite Brianna being a dedicated lawyer with a typically hectic schedule, she enjoyed reading novels during her free time.
To her. Natalie’s melodramatic experiences appeared to be ripped straight from the pages of a novel.
“Your Uncle Xavier?” Brianna asked with curiosity.
“Yes, the man you saw in the reports, the one frequently seen with me, is actually my Uncle Xavier.”
“Calvin doesn’t know?” Brianna inquired again.
“If he had known, he probably wouldn’t have dared to confront Uncle Xavier abroad, Natalie replied.
“Don’t you think you should have clarified this? Misunderstandings like these can be detrimental,” Brianna suggested.
“That’s true, misunderstandings aren’t ideal, but if this misunderstanding can expedite our divorce, it’s a silver lining. It’s just that I didn’t expect…”
She hadn’t expected that, despite all of that, Calvin would still refuse to divorce her.
Brianna grappled for some time to process the unexpected disclosure. It was truly mind-boggling.
Natalie hadn’t expected it either.
In her previous life, she had never known she had an uncle.
Perhaps it was a stroke of fate that had granted her an additional family member in this life. She had nothing in her previous life.
Calvin had been her entire world, and losing him had genuinely left her with nothing.
“Calvin has just betrayed you, and you’ve found your uncle who is such a prominent figure. Why do you still require my protection?”
Indeed, in Brianna’s perspective, Xavier was a high-profile individual.
“Eximius Global! Jimmy Clark, one of the lawyers at my law firm who specializes in financial lawsuits, has an uncle who works there. His annual salary is a few million dollars. Your uncle is actually the chairman?”
Brianna looked at Natalie with complete admiration.
Natalie playfully pinched her cheek and said, “Alright, stop looking at me like that, okay?”
“You are my goddess, okay?”
The previously stern Brianna now appeared even more earnest,
She vented all the past grievances she had held toward Natalie’s mother-in-law, saying, “As for your mother-in-law, if she was aware that your uncle is the chairman of Eximius Global, she’d be nodding and bowing to you. She wouldn’t expect you to serve her; she’d be at your service, okay?”
Natalie just listened and smiled.

Brianna went on. “We must make her aware of this and give her a reality check!”
Brianna was genuinely curious about the expression on Rebecca’s face upon discovering that Natalie was, indeed, the niece of a distinguished chairman of a renowned enterprise abroad.
However, Natalie’s expression shifted as soon as that topic came up.
She grabbed Brianna’s hand and said, “Don’t spread this out. No one knows about this yet.”
“Why?” Brianna asked.
“Because I want to stay clear of them,” Natalie replied.
Because she was eager to end all that, she had no interest in knowing what Rebecca and the others reactions would be.
Brianna thought for a while and agreed.
If Calvin still loved Natalie, her current identity would do her good in the Jeffords family. However, Natalie no longer wanted Calvin, so why should she concern herself with the Jeffords family’s sentiments?
“I was merely joking. Did you think I was being serious? It might be a positive step for you and Calvin to go your separate ways. You don’t have any children together, and he isn’t your true soulmate. Ending the relationship could be the right decision, Brianna pointed out.
Not having children provided a compelling reason to go their separate ways.
Nonetheless, when the subject of children arose, a trace of anguish briefly crossed Natalie’s gaze.
Two children…
She and Calvin had two children. One was killed by Rebecca’s schemes, and the other had tragically perished in that fire along with her. The memories of that tragic fire continued to haunt her, even in her dreams.
That fire in her previous life became an enduring source of pain
“You’re right. I don’t have children with him, so going our separate ways is the right choice. It wasn’t because she didn’t want children, but rather because the Jeffords family had never intended for her to have any.
If she had become pregnant, they would have arranged for her to terminate the pregnancy. They had always wanted to rid themselves of her, and their wish had been granted.
She knew the truth the first time she lost a child. But even so, she didn’t say anything in front of Calvin back then. Looking back on it now, it had been rather foolish of her.
They would never accept her, ever.
Brianna had stopped handling Natalie’s case. Natalie directly appointed Christopher as her attorney. With no involvement in Natalie’s case, Brianna would naturally return to work at her previous law firm.
The news quickly reached Calvin’s ears.
The next day, Natalie met up with Queenie. They convened in an office arranged by Queenie, situated in the office building adjacent to Calvin’s Quadfield Biotech Company.
Calvin’s company occupied an entire building, whereas Natalie’s workspace encompassed only one floor. After all, it was merely a fledgling studio, lacking the grandeur of Calvin’s corporation.
Queenie said to Natalie, “The relevant certificates have been processed. You have two clients to meet in the afternoon and

one tomorrow.”
“Okay.” Natalie nodded.
Queenie went on, saying, “We’ve actually received a substantial number of orders here. However, since our team is still in its nascent stages and needs some time to operate smoothly. I’ve screened the orders for you. There’s no need to rush.”
H
“Thank you,” Natalie conveyed her appreciation. Considering they were starting from the ground up, simply securing orders was a commendable beginning.
She had to acknowledge that Queenie was quite competent.
Two days into her stay in Quadfield, she was already flooded with orders.
It was clear that Queenie had come well-prepared even before she arrived in Quadfield from abroad.
The start was much smoother than Natalie had envisioned.
In the afternoon, Natalie was accompanied by Queenie to meet a client. As they came out of the office building, Natalie noticed Calvin’s car returning, and he emerged from the vehicle
Natalie thought about avoiding him, but he had already spotted her. He approached her with a purposeful stride, his demeanor composed and frosty.
Even in the backlight, Natalie could clearly see the melancholy in his eyes.
“Why are you here?” Calvin reached her side, his tone not particularly friendly.
It was obvious that their recent conflicts had strained their relationship
She had moved out of Autumnhall Residence.
Every time Calvin went back to that chilly and distant place left him feeling more and more irritable.
“Looking for a job?” Seeing that Natalie remained silent, Calvin’s tone became even less amicable.
Natalie looked at him and replied, “Yes.”
As soon as she spoke, the veins on his forehead throbbed, and he grabbed her wrist. “Come with me.”
Initially, the plan was to give her some time to cool off during that period, but Calvin realized that the more he attempted to calm her down, the more she would act out.
At that stage, there was no need to let her calm down.
They needed to have a serious talk.
Natalie didn’t want to pay any attention to him, but making a scene in public wouldn’t be appropriate. Thus, she followed him into another office building.
She turned around and exchanged a glance with Queenie, conveying that she wouldn’t be gone for long, and Queenie nodded in understanding.
Inside the magnificent and imposing office building, the receptionist was impeccably dressed and maintained a professional and respectful demeanor. Upon seeing Calvin, she respectfully bowed and greeted him with a polite voice, “Hello, Mr. Jeffords.”
Wherever he went, the employees showed their respect.
