Chapter 37
Her hatred stirred Calvin’s heart.
However, in the next moment, he remained resolute, “I’m not saying you’ll never see again, just temporarily. Yvette needs to undergo surgery immediately. I’ll find a suitable retina implant for you as soon as possible…
Smack!
Natalie viciously cut him off with a slap in the face before he could finish speaking.
She thought, “Temporary? What did that even mean?”
Natalie shot one last icy glance at Calvin, then turned around and opened the door to the ward. Her tone was frigid as she said, “She can’t afford my retina, and neither can you!”
With that said, she walked away, ignoring Calvin emitting an icy presence behind her.
Calvin had at last spoken that.
Natalie had already forsaken any remaining hope for him and was utterly resigned. However, at that moment, she couldn’t escape feeling hurt.
“Ten years, ten years of love! What on earth prompted him to make such a decision for another woman? What was the underlying reason for it all?”
Natalie kept asking herself over and over, but she couldn’t find the answer. If Calvin wouldn’t disclose it, she… wouldn’t
know.
Natalie had no recollection of how she left the hospital.
In the car, Natalie kept calling Brianna. It must be busy on the other end because it wasn’t until a long time had passed that Brianna answered the call with a slightly unpleasant tone, “Nat.”
“Bria, are you alright?” Natalie’s heart tightened as she recalled what Calvin had mentioned during their call.
She knew Calvin very well. He would undoubtedly react in such a way if he was provoked too much. Finally, he took action against Brianna.
Brianna asked, “I’ll be home soon. Are you there?”
“I… I’ll be back shortly!” Natalie answered.
“Great, I’ve grabbed some groceries. I’ll whip up something delicious for you.”
At that juncture in the conversation, Natalie understood that Calvin was a man of his word. Chances were, Brianna had lost her job.
He was heartless. Furthermore, now that he had treated her like that, it was sure that he would not be courteous to those around her.
Natalie hung up on Brianna’s call, gazing out of the window, her eyes no longer able to hide the hatred within. Her exquisitely beautiful face had turned pale.
Finally, she made a phone call to Xavier, who was abroad. He quickly answered the phone, greeting her with, “Nat!”
“Uncle Xavier, I need a lawyer.”

“Aren’t there any lawyers in Quadfield who can handle your lawsuit?” he inquired.
“There are, but Calvin…” Natalie didn’t complete her sentence, but Xavier was well-versed in such matters.
He was fully cognizant of the predicament Natalie was in at that moment.
“Alright, I’ll arrange for Mr. Yates to fly over today”
“Thanks,” Natalie replied.
Now that Brianna couldn’t involve herself in her affairs, Natalie understood that there would be no one else brave enough to take on her case in Quadfield.
After all, no one in Quadfield was willing to offend the Jeffords family.
Upon reaching the condominium, Natalie heard the sound of running water coming from the kitchen. She hadn’t expected Brianna to be so prompt. After changing her shoes, Natalie walked over to find Brianna standing by the sink.
The sink was already filled up with water, but Brianna stood there in a daze, motionless.
Natalie stepped forward and turned off the tap.
Brianna spotted her, offered a subtle smile, and remarked, “You’re back? Go change into something cozy. The meal will be ready soon.
Although she said so, in truth, she hadn’t even begun preparing the meal.
Natalie looked at Brianna’s outfit and thought of the cardboard box on the table, which must have been brought back by Brianna. It was obvious what had happened.
Natalie felt a profound sense of remorse in her gaze. “I’m sorry. It’s all my fault.”
“You already know? Brianna inquired.
“Yeah.” Natalie affirmed.
“Did he threaten you?” Brianna asked with concern.
Natalie remained silent, thinking, “More than just a threat. Our relationship has escalated to a point where it’s impossible to resolve. It isn’t just a threat. There is more… What else?” In that instance, Natalie struggled to find words.
She despised Calvin to the core and wished him to die. Who could have foreseen that two people who had once loved each other deeply would now harbor such dark wishes?
With her head lowered, Natalie uttered, “Bria, please don’t trouble yourself with my matters for the time being.”
“Silly, if I don’t support you now, then who will?” Brianna said indifferently. Observing Natalie’s lowered head, she continued, “Don’t worry, a law firm has already extended an invitation to me. I’ll soon secure a new position, and I’ll stand by your side throughout this ordeal!”
In Brianna’s heart, Natalie was now someone without family support.
If she didn’t help Natalie, Calvin might subject her to relentless torment.
A teardrop fell from Natalie’s eye and landed on the back of Brianna’s hand.
“Hey, are you touched, Nat?” Brianna playfully chided, “Then stand tall and show everyone that you aren’t someone who depends on men, but rather, the one those wretched men would beg to rely on.”

“Pfft…” Natalie had been feeling somewhat disheartened. However, when she heard Brianna echoing similar sentiments as Xavier, Natalie couldn’t help but let out a chuckle.
“Feeling happier now? See, you look so beautiful when you smile. Is it really worth shedding tears over a man?” Brianna commented.
“Not worth it,” Natalie replied.
“Even though we had been together for ten years, we still ended up like this. Shedding tears because of Calvin… isn’t worth it.” Natalie sighed inwardly.
Brianna led Natalie to take a seat outside.
At the moment, she didn’t really feel like cooking. So, she ordered a considerable amount of takeout. It was then that Brianna noticed the bandage on Natalie’s arm. “What happened to you?”
“Nothing.” Natalie replied.
“Tell me.” Brianna insisted firmly.
Natalie cast a quick glance at her, then lowered her gaze, softly toying with the little pig she held in her arms. “It’s nothing. Your job loss is a result of Calvin’s actions.”
“Oh, don’t let it trouble you, Brianna comforted Natalie.
Natalie was surprised. “You know he did it.
“Yes, it’s quite obvious, isn’t it? He target me because of you. Brianna remarked.
Natalie silently agreed.
Brianna had been with that law firm for many years, and she had never lost a divorce lawsuit.
Coupled with her tenure and vast experience, she had become a partner at that law firm, and that made her unshakable to most people.
So, that day’s situation made Brianna immediately think of Calvin. In Quadfield, the only person who could do something. to her was most likely Calvin.
“I want you to know, Bria. You needn’t be involved in my matters at the moment, Natalie conveyed.
“Are you certain you’ll find someone to handle your lawsuit?” Brianna questioned.
“Don’t worry. I’ve found a lawyer from abroad and have arranged for him to fly to Quadfield soon,” Natalie reassured.
Upon hearing that, Brianna arched a skeptical eyebrow and looked at Natalie with a bewildered expression.
She knew about the rumors concerning Natalie abroad, but she hadn’t inquired about them since Natalie returned to Quadfield.
Drawing closer to Natalie, she couldn’t resist asking out of curiosity, “Did you truly have a relationship with someone abroad?”
Natalie was drinking water when Brianna’s question caught her off guard, causing her to involuntarily spurt the water out.
Cough!
“Dam n it, Nat, I’ve clearly underestimated you. Please don’t tell me you really had an affair as reported, Brianna replied, her

eyes widening.
Although such a reputation wasn’t ideal, when dealing with someone like Calvin, it was almost gratifying.
Natalie shot an annoyed glare at Brianna. “No, I didn’t.”
“Then tell me, who arranged the lawyer abroad for you?”
Brianna asked, her gaze unwavering, as if she was convinced there was more to the story.
Natalie let out a sigh.
Originally, she hadn’t intended to divulge Xavier’s involvement in that matter to Brianna. However, based on Brianna’s determined attitude, it seemed she wouldn’t stop until she knew everything.
Finally, after taking a deep breath…
