Lost Treasure: Into the City

Chapter 21

As pixie and the other female charge toward me, I take off toward them. I baseball slide, taking them down. I pull up pixie by the hair, bringing her back to my chest. I lock my fingers behind her neck, my arms under hers. I use her body as a shield from the other females attacks.

She goes for my face; I dip back bringing pixie’s face up to catch her fist. I laugh like a crazy person as I release her and kick her into the other chick. They collide with a sickening thud; they fall to the ground. She pushes pixie off her and stands. Pixie lays there dazed.

Arms loop around me in a tight squeeze. I feel my ribs strain under her grip. I low snarl vibrates in my right ear. Clay face must have come to and came back for more. Good.

The other female cracks her knuckles as she prepares to strike. I struggle against my bonds. Think, Jewel, think! I wonder if I can pick this chick up. In one swift motion I bend over, lifting clay face’s feet off the ground just as the other throw a right hook.

Then I run at her with clay face on my back like a battering ram, sinking my shoulder and her head into the chick’s abdomen. Clay face let’s go and rolls away while I feed the other chick some knuckles.

Pixie comes out of nowhere and kicks me in the face. I roll backwards into a somersault and pop up to my feet. Where the hell did she come from?! I glance quickly at the other two chicks. They’re on the ground not moving, breathing hard.

Pixie is running out of steam. Her lips are swollen and is pouring down sweat. I spit out the blood pooling in my mouth. I grin sheepishly with a wink.

That fires her up and brings her to me. I need to finish this before the other two come to. I catch her arm. I hook her leg taking her face down into the concrete. I bend her arm behind her back, holding her head down with the other.

I apply pressure to her wrist. She howls in pain. “Submit, now!” I command. After she struggles a few minutes her body goes limp.

“I submit." her voice just above a whisper.

With her response the crowd goes wild. It was so loud it resembles a roar. I stand up and pull at the hem of my shirt. She rolls over on to her back, breathing heavy, and looking up at me. I tower over her like a fresh kill.

I offer my hand with a wink and a smile. This time she smiles back. Taking my hand, I pull her to her feet. I brush the dirt off her back steadying her. We walk over to clay face and the other. They are worn out. Pixie and I pull them up to their feet and guild them to a bench.

I look around and see a boy with a water bottle. “Hey, you boy, give me your water please.” I say smoothly. He comes over and hands it to me right away.

I take a few gulps then offer it to pixie. Call it wolf instinct, but I know how to treat my subordinates even at the tender age I am. Our gamma told us after a win, care for the defeated. The surprise in their face tells me this must be a “pack mentality” thing because their surprise turns to confusion.

Each one takes a drink, clay face finishing it off. The group has begun to thin out. I’m on cloud 9, still high from the fight. I take a deep breath to calm my heart rate.

“Well, you know my name. What are your names?” I ask plopping down next to pixie.

“I’m Olive, this is my sister Zee, and that’s Maria.” Pixie replies.

“Ok. I wish we could have met on different terms. However, I’m glad our paths crossed. So... what happens next? Did I pass?” I cross my legs placing my hands on my knees.

They look at each other, then smile.

“Logan will get back to you when he reaches a decision. But I’m pretty sure he will take you on. If he doesn’t, other territory leaders will be at your door. Don’t be surprised if you get mobbed with new fans. Word travels fast here.” Zee replies.

“Are you sure you’re human? You seem more... supernatural.” Maria asks clutching her stomach.

“I’m all human, sorry to disappoint. I work out.” I say with a chuckle.

“I can’t believe you took on three wol- um... people and all you got is a fat lip. Which doesn’t even look that bad by the way.” Olive exclaims. “Where are you from, the south for sure. Your accent is thick.” She giggles.

The others laugh along. All I can do is grin. I forget how north I am. Yankees... I think I’ll always have that twang along my southern sayings. I don’t mind, my roots run deep in my blood.

“Tennessee. I know, how does a sweet southern bell end up in the city. Let’s just call it fate.” I wink as I stand. “Later, ladies.”

I go get my stuff I left on the bench, then I get on my bike and head to the cafe. When I slip in through the back, I change my clothes and spray more human scent blocker on. I throw on the apron as I make my way to the sink. As I’m tying the apron, Peggy rushes back to see me.

“Jewel! Word has already spread about your mock fight. I can’t believe it!” She pulls me into a big hug. “Wolves are pouring in here just because you work here. We’ve got a full house!” She squeals and heads back out before I can reply.

The rest of the day I’m busy with the load of work. By three in the afternoon, I finish the lunch dishes. Bill has a chicken wrap and chip waiting for me at the bar. I sit and start to eat.

I could hear the customers around me whispering, I was an anomaly. Too bad I really am just like them. They will find out soon enough I’m sure. Until then, I’ll let them wonder.
