Chapter 45 I Will Stick to You for the Rest of My Life
The source of that voice originated from a dining table ten or so meters away, and the other female customers all cast unsatisfactory glances in his direction. "Look at his naive appearance, I wonder which mental hospital has he escaped from."
"You guys are wrong, he must be missing his girlfriend dearly. Look at his pitiful face, I guess that his girlfriend is either dead or has eloped with another man."
Initially, Quincy never planned to pay any heed to these people's nonsensical words, but when they started to humiliate Jane, he felt a smoldering anger surging up from within.
He immediately slammed the dining table hard as he stood up. He glared at the six or seven instigators sitting in another table. They all had a sturdy and hard-knocked look as they sported golden chains, clothes with flowery design, tattoos as well as having bald heads.
"Oh? Kid, you must think that you look so good right now. If you really have guts, say it to our faces here." One of the thugs who looked like their leader said with a relaxed expression.
Jane was the apple in Quincy's heart, so he could never tolerate anybody humiliating her or mouthing off about her to him. No matter who that person was, Quincy would determine to let them shut up, so he took a wine bottle and was about to march towards them.
"Quincy."
At this moment, a light yet subtle voice drifted into his ears. It was Jane! Quincy froze briefly before taking a look of that person sitting opposite his seat.
Jane was sitting there alright, and she looked serene and calm. In an instant, all the anger on Quincy's face dissipated, and it was replaced by a smile.
"Sit down now and accompany me for a meal." Jane said with a smile.
"Alright." Quincy stared at Jane's face while uttering some vague reply. He replaced the wine bottle on the table and retook his seat.
The customers nearby were all fazed by the turn of events. What the hell was happening? Who was Quincy talking to? There was nobody sitting opposite him at all. Had he gone crazy?
"I am just looking forward to how badass he would be! I think he's just a coward who likes to pretend!"
"If he really comes at us, I will beat him up to the point that his mother wouldn't be able to recognize him!" "Let's not care about this nobody anymore, who knows if he really did come from a mental hospital."
At this time, Quincy could "see" Jane smiling at him, as if she had already forgiven him.
Quincy was beyond happy.
"What the hell, you have spilled something on my arm, you fool!" Suddenly, a loud commotion broke out in the restaurant as someone were screaming loudly. A loud crashing sound of tables and chairs toppling over followed closely as someone said, "Fuck you!"
"Ah..." Quincy was fetching some dishes for Jane, and suddenly Jane let out a scream as she looked like she was being hit by a force. She crashed to the floor in an instant.
"Jane, what's wrong with you?" Quincy frantically moved forward to help Jane up, but at that juncture, Jane suddenly disappeared into thin air right in front of his eyes. "Jane, Jane..." Quincy anxiously called out her name.
"Sir, please calm down..." The waiter came to hold Quincy and Quincy took this chance to ask the waiter, "Have you seen my girlfriend? She was here a moment ago, but now she's gone. Was it you guys who have hidden her..."
"Sir, your girlfriend is never here in the first place, everything is just your imagination. You can take a look yourself." The waiter explained frantically as he pointed at the seat opposite Quincy.
Quincy took a look and saw that on the plate opposite him, there were countless dishes such as prawns, eels, duck liver, caviar. Jane should have eaten all of those, so why were those food still being left untouched...
"I'm sorry..." Quincy suddenly understood that everything was just his fantasy. He apologized to the waiter in a low voice as he was about to leave with a messed-up head.
"Do you think a simple apology will do it? Damn it, haven't you heard of me? I'm the mighty Bryan, and I won't ask you to compensate me. You just have to follow me and wash my clothes with your own hands. If you can do that, I won't haggle with you." Bryan blared loudly.
Suddenly, a sound of clothes being torn off could be heard.
At the same time, a helpless girl let out a shriek, "Don't pull me!"
Quincy who was already at the entrance stopped in his tracks.
That girl's scream sounded like a thunder as it struck Quincy's head.
This voice belonged to Jane!
Quincy was trembling as he was afraid this was yet again his hallucination. He turned around slowly and started to head towards where Bryan was.
At that time, his dining table was surrounded by onlookers, so Quincy couldn't see at a glance the face of that girl.
Among the crowd, the manager of the restaurant was there too. Seeing that Jane was in an altercation with Bryan, his eyebrows knitted greatly.
Without the need to ask around, the manager was sure that this fiasco was instigated by Bryan.
The last time around, Bryan employed the same method to deceive one of the waitresses and brought her to his house. He had humiliated her and in response the restaurant had to compensate her family for more than two hundred thousand Yuan!
On the other hand, Bryan was left untouched because he was with the underground gangsters. He had major influence in this area.
"You useless thing, how can you offend Bryan? Get lost now!" The manager glared at the waitress and scolded.
The waitress who was being scolded was none other than Jane.
Jane looked very pitiful and embarrassed as her attire was being damaged in front of so many people. Despite that, she knew that the manager was actually helping her, so she scurried into the kitchen of the restaurant while covering her tear-stricken face.
When Quincy was there at the scene, he could only steal a glance of Jane's silhouette.
Quincy parted the crowd to go into the kitchen. The manager was still apologizing to Bryan non-stop. He was trying to flatter him.
The kitchen was a confined area, so Quincy could only slowly tread the area to avoid toppling over the utensils there.
At that moment, the kitchen was bustling with activities, as cooks, catering crew and waiters were all abiding by their roles. Nobody was even paying attention to Quincy.
"Why is that poor girl acting like that?"
"That's because Bryan that bastard has struck again, and this time he has his eyes on her. The manager is trying his best to stall him!"
"She is really a poor girl. I can see that she has been working non-stop without even so much as complaining. She even works consecutive shifts from morning until night time. If she isn't this young, she would probably die of exhaustion. I don't really know why she is torturing herself by working that hard."
"I heard that she is doing this to repay her boyfriend's debts. Haven't you noticed that she never spends any of the money she has earned?"
"Huh? So she has a shitty boyfriend? This poor girl really has a terrible life. With her looks, she can get her hands on any guys she desires. She wouldn't end up in this terrible state either."
Two middle-aged women from the catering crew were gossiping about that girl, but one of them realized that a piercing gaze was burning through her, and she thought that it was the head cook. She turned around nervously but instead saw Quincy standing there in a trance, "Dear customer, you can't simply come in here. Can you leave now?"
"Lady, where is the girl you were talking about just now?" Quincy looked like he had to muster a great deal of energy to speak these words. "Why are you looking for Jane?" The middle-aged woman asked curiously.
When Quincy heard her name being spoken by her, he felt an electric current jolting through him, and his brain was instantly refreshed.
"I am that shitty boyfriend that you guys were talking about." Quincy replied listlessly.
"So you are Jane's boyfriend? You are really good-for-nothing. Jane is such a kind girl too, how could you let her work so hard and pay for your debts? Are you still a man?" One of the middle-aged women began to reprimand him.
"Kid, follow me!" The other middle-aged woman had a delicate heart and she was able to see at first glance that Quincy was not a heartless person. She couldn't help but sighed while leading Quincy into the deep interiors of the kitchen.
They entered a separate compartment within the kitchen, and Quincy saw Jane sitting on the floor while wrapping her arms around her knees.
At that moment, he felt himself unable to proceed further.
His restless heart gradually returned to a calm state.
The compartment was echoing with Jane's sobs. There was a large opening on her shirt on her right shoulder, revealing a delicate skin. She buried her head deep within her knees.
A streak of tear suddenly broke free of Quincy's eyes.
He took step after step while moving towards Jane, and he was being engulfed in embarrassment, regret, annoyance and apology...
He stopped in front of Jane and slowly squatted down. He extended his hand to touch Jane's hair.
"Sorry, manager, please don't fire me..." The moment Quincy touched Jane, Jane immediately looked up fearfully to start begging, thinking that it was the manager who had come to fire her. However, when she laid eyes on Quincy, she suddenly froze and stared at him in astonishment. She looked terrified and uncomfortable as she lowered her head.
"Jane, can't you recognize me? I'm Quincy!" Quincy introduced himself loudly while continuing to squat down there in front of Jane. "You must still resent me. I am really despicable! I really deserved to be beaten up..."
Quincy started to slap himself in front of Jane, and he didn't hold back either while landing blow after blow on his cheeks. He deserved this since he had let Jane suffer!
"Stop it!" Jane grasped Quincy's hand while calling out anxiously.
"Jane." Quincy called out meekly before pulling her into his embrace. He never wanted to let Jane out of his sight anymore.
Jane was somehow being melted by his embrace. She initially wanted to earn money silently and helped him clear his debt. After that, she planned to never see him again. However, in the days she was not around Quincy, she could always picture his smile in her mind.
During this period, Quincy could never stop missing Jane, and it was the same for Jane.
At that moment, the person she was missing the most had appeared beside her, and it made Jane felt like everything was so surreal, as if she was inside a dream.
Jane slowly hugged Quincy and felt his warmth. She always felt safe whenever he was there for her.
Quincy slowly let go of Jane.
"I'm sorry, I..." Quincy wanted to explain what had really happened that day. He wanted to let her know that he never intended to deceive her, that his feelings for her was always real. He had blurted out those words because the circumstances were unforgiving. Before he could finish his sentence, Jane pressed her hand on his mouth.
"You don't need to explain anymore. I don't care you're lying to me or not, the fact of the matter is I have fallen for you hard. I will stick myself to you for the rest of my life, until you're so tired of me and you want me gone." Jane articulated each word while looking into his eyes. She had done a lot of thinking over the past few days.
She came to a conclusion, which was this: without Quincy, she could never continue to live and survive. Holding on to this singular thought, she felt that nothing would matter more.
Quincy was deeply moved by her because she didn't want to pursue the fact that he had indeed deceived her.
"So this is your decision? Too bad, I'm always the loyal type. If I have set my eyes on someone, that won't change for the rest of my life." Quincy replied with a faint smile.
Jane smiled shyly in response.
"Look, I have earned eight hundred Yuan over the past few days. After you have graduated, we can earn money together. We will be able to clear your debt!" Jane produced a few red notes from her pocket. Seeing Jane's innocent smile, Quincy felt a melancholic and emotional turbulence brewing inside him.
"Are you trying to make us feel jealous of you?" The two middle-aged women saw that Quincy had made up to Jane and they revealed a gratified smile.
"No way, if you're going to refuse me again, I'll bring down your restaurant!" Bryan's violent voice suddenly sounded outside the kitchen.
"Jane, stay put for a while. I'll be back very soon." Quincy consoled Jane with a smile before turning around and strode out of the kitchen. So, Bryan was insisting to look for Jane, was it? Quincy would love to find out how capable he was!
