Goodbye Cheater Hello CEO’s Wife by Payne Walter

Chapter CHAPTER 67

Chapter 67

Scarlett glanced at Felix coldly. “For now, I can only offer you a place to stay, but it’s your choice. My hopes now all rest on this child. If you want a better life ahead, you’d better pray for a safe pregnancy and a son for me. And don’t stir up trouble for me.”

Felix raised his brows, clearly displeased. “You’re getting too big for your boots. How dare you talk to me like that!” He raised his hand, about

to strike Scarlett.

Scarlett stared him down coldly, without dodging.

“Cut that out!” Fiona intervened, pushing Felix away and shooting him a look.

Then she turned back to Scarlett, sitting by her side affectionately. “Scarlett, who’s the father of your child? What’s his family background

like?”

Scarlett glanced at the disgruntled Felix, then leaned back against the couch. “He’s Zachary Winslow, the son of the CEO of Avid Ventures

Real Estate,” she remarked.

“What? Real estate? He must be loaded then. Real estate is booming these days,” Felix exclaimed as he sat down on the other side of Scarlett, eagerly looking at her.

“Even though I’m carrying Zachary’s child, he already has a marriage contract. On the day of his engagement, our affair was exposed, and now his fiancée has called off the engagement. However, she comes from a wealthy family, and his family is reluctant to let go of this prospective daughter–in–law.” Scarlett smirked.

“What? I won’t allow it! Scarlett, what can I do to help?” Felix, upon hearing that, rolled up his sleeves with a fierce look, ready to take action.

Scarlett gave him a disdainful look. “I’m currently staying at their place because of the baby I’m carrying. His mom is anxious about the baby, but they won’t approve of Zachary and me getting married because I don’t have the family background his fiancée does.”

“So… are you planning to be his side piece?” Fiona asked, probing.

The beautiful Scarlett wore a chilly smile. “Impossible! I must marry into the Winslow family with honor and become the lady of the house in the Winslow family.”

Fiona nodded approvingly, placing her hand on Scarlett’s leg. “Scarlett, I support you! You must marry into a prestigious family and change your background. You’re so talented, with your looks and education, you wouldn’t disgrace their family in the slightest!”

“Mom is right. Scarlett, both Mom and I support you!” Felix chimed in.

Scarlett scoffed. “Support? What support do you have to offer? I’m seen as a lowly woman from a humble background in their eyes. If they found out I have a gambling–addicted brother, they would be even more opposed to Zach marrying me.”

Felix avoided Scarlett’s gaze, muttering, “I’ll change it. Isn’t that enough?”

Fiona, unable to bear seeing Felix like that, quickly jumped in, “Don’t worry, Scarlett. I’ll keep an eye on him this time, won’t let him cause trouble for you. You can trust us. We’re family, and we’ll have your back.”

Felix quickly chimed in, “Yeah.”

Scarlett stood up, not even looking at them. “Remember what you said earlier. If I make it, you’ll have it good. If not…”

With that, she grabbed her bag, extracted a wad of cash from her purse, and placed it on the coffee table. “Watch your spending. Even though I’m staying at the Winslow residence now, I have no freedom and no money.”

Then, Scarlett grabbed her bag and walked out the door.

Fiona hurriedly got up. “Scarlett, are you leaving now? I’m going to the market to get some groceries. Why don’t you stay for dinner before you go?”

Scarlett didn’t even turn around. “No need. I just said I was going back to school as an excuse to get out. If you nee instead of calling. Calling isn’t convenient.”

Scarlett strolled down the sidewalk. The autumn sun shone brightly, warm but not scorching, and the ground had already begun to be scattered with fallen leaves. She placed her hand on her bulging belly.

The child would be her ticket into the Winslow family.

She once thought Isabella was a poor person struggling at the bottom of society, like herself.

She wasn’t inferior to Isabella in any aspect. In terms of looks, Isabella couldn’t compare to her. In terms of grades, she wasn’t much worse than Isabella. Personality–wise, Isabella wasn’t talkative, while she was gentle and outgoing.

But all the boys at school, regardless of their grade or class, liked Isabella. Scarlett found that even the boys she had crushes on also favored

Isabella.

Standing next to her, Scarlett always felt overshadowed.

Gradually, she started to feel envious.

She thought, ‘Why does Isabella always seem to outshine me in every aspect?‘

And what she never expected was that Isabella had such an amazing fiancé, not only handsome but also wealthy, with such a good family

background.

At that moment, jealousy consumed her heart.

So, she pretended to get closer to Isabella, often seen by her side. With that, she managed to meet Zachary, Isabella’s fiancé and successfully caught his attention.

Scarlett smiled faintly. Since childhood, she firmly believed that whatever she desired, she would attain, setting goals for herself along the way. The satisfaction of achieving them served as her constant driving force.

However, this time, her goal was not about ranks and scholarships, but about Zachary.

Making a man like her seemed far easier than staying up all night studying.

Zachary fell for her after just three meetings, while he always appeared impatient with Isabella. It brought her immense satisfaction.

Now, having come this far, she was even more reluctant to give up.

Scarlett pondered, ‘Yvonne thinks she can use me as a pawn, but she doesn’t realize I’m not that naïve.’

Standing on the flyover, looking down at the bustling traffic, she said to herself, “Scarlett, you must marry into the Winslow family, make those who’ve been looking down on you start looking up to you.”

Returning to the Winslow residence, she changed her shoes at the doorstep and spotted Megan sitting on the couch in the living room, munching on chips.

Megan gave her a sideways glance. “You’re finally back. You’re pregnant and still can’t manage to stay home.”

Scarlett looked timid, speaking softly. “I just went back to school.” Her fingers nervously twisted together,

Megan snapped, “Who are you trying to garner sympathy from? Go grab me a drink from the kitchen!”

Scarlett, submissive, slowly walked to the kitchen.

As she passed by the stairs, she caught a glimpse of Lorelai coming down. So, she pretended to stumble, “Ouch!” Scarlett exclaimed as she sat on the ground.

Lorelai hurried down the stairs, shouting, “What happened? Zaylee! Zaylee, come quickly!”

Zaylee rushed over, and they carefully helped Scarlett up. Lorelai anxiously asked, “Are you okay? Is your stomach feeling uncomfortable? Are you experiencing any pain?”

She kept asking one after another. Scarlett frowned for a while before gently replying, “I’m okay.”

Sitting on the couch, Megan glanced around and sneered, “Do you think you’re made of glass? Who do you think you’re trying to scare?”

Scarlett timidly said, “Sorry, I… I was in a rush.”

In a rush for what? You’re pregnant.” After seeing that Scarlett was fine, Lorelai couldn’t help but feel annoyed.

Scarlett stammered, “I… I was going to the kitchen to get Megan a drink.”

Megan, furious, jumped up from the couch and said to Scarlett, “I asked you to get a drink, not to fall. You can’t even walk properly, and now you want to blame me?”

Scarlett looked panicked. “No, Megan. I didn’t, I swear!”

As she spoke, her tears began to fall.

Lorelai turned to scold Megan, “Shut up! She’s pregnant. How could you make her fetch things? What if something goes wrong? We have several housekeepers here. Aren’t they enough for you to boss around?”

Seeing Lorelai getting angry, Megan didn’t dare say anything.

Upon entering, Zachary caught sight of Scarlett in tears and overheard Lorelai scolding Megan. His temper flared. “Just because you’re the daughter of the Winslow family, does that make you so superior? Stop bullying people around here!”

Megan took Lorelai’s scolding silently, but when Zachary walked in and started berating ber, she immediately exploded. “Who am I bullying? Zach, are you yelling at me because of this shameless woman? Mom, do something about him!”

Zachary pulled Scarlett close. “Don’t bully Scarlett again, or else don’t blame me for being rude!”

Scarlett quickly grabbed Zachary’s arm. “Zach, don’t be angry. It’s all my fault, don’t blame Megan… Zach, what happened to your clothes? How did they get dirty?”

Zachary’s cream–colored suit was stained.

Zachary’s expression darkened. “Nothing, the waiter accidentally spilled. I’m going upstairs to change. Come with me.”

“Okay,” Scarlett obediently replied.

ter compliance lifted Zachary’s mood slightly.

Coming out of the bathroom, Zachary saw Scarlett silently shedding tears in the chair by the window.

“What’s wrong?” Zachary asked as he dried his hair.

Scarlett quickly wiped her face and forced a smile as she approached. “Let me help you.”

Her forced smile carried a pitiful beauty, evoking sympathy

Compared to the earlier dominant Isabella, Scarlett appeared more endearing.

“Scarlett, Megan has been spoiled by my parents since she was little. Don’t take it personally.” Zachary gently held Scarlett’s hand.

Scarlett lowered her head, tears dripping onto Zachary’s hand, and she quickly reached to wipe them away. “Sorry… Sorry…”

Zachary’s heart melted. He hugged her, gently patting her back. “It’s okay, don’t cry.”

Scarlett’s shoulders shook as she sobbed, “Sorry, Zachary, it’s all my fault. ‘thlen in love with you and had your child.”

With tears welling in her eyes, Scarlett gently pushed away from Zachary’s embrace and looked at him. “Zachary, I’ve made up my mind. Let’s break up. I can’t let you bear the blame for me, nor can I jeopardize the marriage of convenience between the Winslow and Ingram families. It’s my mistake, and I’ll take responsibility. All I ask is for you to

to let me raise our child. I’ll raise with love and care, consider it your presence beside me.”

Tears streamed down Scarlett’s face as she spoke, but every word she uttered was clear.

Zachary, angered, retorted, “Scarlett, what are you talking about?”

Scarlett gave a wistful smile. “I won’t marry again. My mom and brother arrived and agreed to help raise the child. Don’t worry. Although we may not have much, we’ll do whatever it takes to give our child a good life. I came back to pack my things, say goodbye, and make things clear. From now on, we part ways. I wish you happiness, Zachary,”

Then, she turned to open the wardrobe, preparing to pack her clothes.

Zachary suddenly embraced her from behind. “No, I don’t agree. Scarlett, I won’t let you leave. You know I love you.”

Scarlett stiffened, her gaze fixed on Zachary’s hand holding hers, and she shook her head gently. “My mom made it clear, even if she had to beg, she wouldn’t let me become a mistress and ruin someone else’s marriage. As long as she’s alive, she won’t allow it. My brother may be unreliable, but this time he promised to help me raise the child if I go back, even if he has to work at a construction site.”
