Chapter 77

Chapter 77: When One Becomes Two

*Riley*

I seemed to have a habit of waking up in strange places. I reached out and didn’t feel Nicolas. I jerked up and patted the bed around me.

“Nicolas,” I called out. I continued to reach for him, my panic about to surge when I couldn’t find him.

“Hello?” I said into the room, knowing I wasn’t alone.

“I’m still here,” Vera said.

“Vera, what happened, where is Nicolas?” I asked, already trying to uncover myself from the covers.

“You’re back in your room, you passed out trying to heal him,” she explained.

“Well did it work? Why did you take me away?” I asked, annoyed that she brought me here.

“It wasn’t my call, Luna Amelia…” she started but I cut her off.

“Did it work Vera?” I asked again.

Her sign was enough.

“No, he still hasn’t woken up.” She confirmed. I nodded into the darkness behind my eyes. He was still in a coma and my eyes were still out. What a pair we were.

“Take me back.” I said standing up but leaning on the bed. I wasn’t sure what room they considered to be mine so I stayed still.

“I think you should rest,” Vera said.

I turned in her direction.

“And I will once I’m back with Nicolas. Now are you going to help me or am I going to have to find my way myself?” I snapped. I hated not being able to see and needing to rely on others. Why couldn’t they understand that I needed to be with him right now?

I felt my wolf stir and I was suddenly filled with worry.

“What is it Rain?” I asked.

“Uh nothing, we will rest when we reach out mate,” she agreed but once again sounded as if she were holding something back.

Chapter 77 When One Becomes Two

A hand reached out to me and I allowed Vera to lead me from the

room.

We barely made it down the hall when I heard footsteps rushing towards us. I knew immediately who it was.

“Luna Adele,” I called out. I know I should be…”

“Resting,” she said at the same time as me.

I understood that I was badly hurt, but besides my eyes, the ache in my heart, and the nausea in my stomach, I was fine, they were stressing out about me when they should be using that energy to get help for Nicolas.

“Oh goodness girl,” Luna Adele groaned. “How can you not tell?” She asked, clearly frustrated with me.

I tilted my head towards her.

“What are you talking about?” I asked her, confused.

“Perhaps it’s because you just got your wolf and aren’t used to her feelings yet,” she mumbled to herself more than me.

“Rain what is she talking about? We talk to each other,” I said, getting annoyed.

“Well I have been meaning to talk to you about something, but with our mate like he is, I don’t know how to bring it up.” Rain said.

I frowned and c**d my head at Luna Adele hoping she noticed how annoyed I was.

“Ok, I guess I’ll have to do it,” she said, then I felt a hand on my stomach.

“What? Am I getting fat?” I snapped.

She laughed. “Not yet.”

I was confused and though I couldn’t see, I looked between Vera and

Luna Adele.

“Our cubs. She’s touching our cubs,” Rain finally said.

I gasped and was glad that Vera was still holding on to me.

I touched my stomach and maybe it was because of Rain’s confirmation but I knew Luna Adele was right.

“I’m pregnant?” I had to ask.

“You would know better than I would, but yes,” she said.

When Dre Becomes Two:

“How did you know before me?” I asked as I softly touched my belly.

Luna Adele sniffed.

“Years of experience, you are definitely with child. The smell is slight

so not too far along. I’d say a month or a little more,” she said.

My wolf grunted in approval. I needed to sit down, I needed-.

“Take me to Nicolas please,” I said.

“Are you going to try to heal him? It would be dangerous to continue while being pregnant,” Luna Adele warned.

I turned to Vera, needing her on my side. I was physically drained, emotionally spent and now thoroughly shocked by the news that I was going to be a mother, and perhaps a single mother.

“Bring me to him, please,” I nearly begged. Vera had been with me for a while now, I could feel her decision

without needing to see her face.

So did Luna Adele.

Luna Adele sighed but moved aside to let us pass. When we reached his room. I dismissed Vera. She gave my hand a firm squeeze but I was already mapping out my steps to Nicolas.

The door shut behind me and I started forward with my hands out. I hadn’t paid much attention the first time I was in this room, I had

simply followed Vera’s lead so instead of memory I used the sounds of his even breathing to guide me and within a minute I was bumping into his bedside. I reached out for him and quickly found his warm body underneath my shaking fingertips.

“Nicolas, you have to wake up now, do you hear me?” I said, grabbing at his leg. I began to shake him as I crawled on top of the bed. I wasn’t sure if I was hurting him or not, but perhaps outside pain would get him to open his eyes or say something. Hell, I’d even take a grunt at this point.

“Nicolas, wake up! You can’t leave us, do you hear me? I said us!” I grabbed his hand and placed it on my stomach.

“We need you to wake up. Don’t you dare make me raise this cub on my own, Nicolas!” I leaned onto his chest adding just a bit of my weight onto him. When he didn’t budge I collapsed on him and broke down. My s o b s rippled through me as

down. My s b s rippled through me as I clung to him, his name a plea

on my lips.
