Chapter 73: Catching A Wolf Off-Guard

*Malik*

To be in the jaws of the wolf was terrifying. Everyone had paused to watch the pair of us as she demanded that I force my men to retreat. I held still, moving too much and the wolf’s teeth would dig into the sides of my neck.

I had gone through too much to give up this easily. Just because she was able to catch me off-guard once didn’t mean I was just going to give it all up for her.

Not that they could get out of here without me. I was very sure of keeping both of them in the dark about where they were or how to get back. I was their only way out of here.

“You don’t want to do this,” I gritted out to the wolf. A growl rumbled in her chest, still watching my men surrounding her. “Even if you managed to kill all of us, where would you go?”

She didn’t care to listen to any of my words of wisdom. Instead, her jaws tightened around her hold on me. She wasn’t going to let up anytime soon unless I gave in to what she wanted.

She was in no position to demand anything from me. I would make sure this was all under control again..

I would put her back in that cell if it was the last thing I did.

I turned my head towards my men slowly, trying to give Riley any reason to execute her threat. My hand slowly reached into my pocket as well. My fingers wrapped around a familiar glass jar, gripping the object tight.

“You heard the girl,” I ordered through gritted teeth. My men hesitated to take their steps back, so the next order was more of a bark, “Back

up!”

More of my guards backed away, sending her into a false sense of security. I took the bottle of the powdered substance slowly from my pocket. While she was watching the other men, I was able to pop the top of the jar and pour its contents over the wolf’s eyes.

Riley yelped, dropping me from her jaws quickly as she scrambled back. The silver made into a powdered form was working its magic.

I fell to the floor as she was quick to drop me. I easily caught myself with my hands and pushed my body up from the floor. Chuckling as I moved a few steps back from where she was flailing about.

One of my hands slowly came up and started rubbing at where I could still feel her canines in my flesh. That was the closest call I had yet.

“Get the net,” I ordered the men around me with a wide smirk as I

stared down at her.

The wolf was still trying to move backward. Her paws were up trying to swipe the silver from where it was burning into the front of her skull. When she heard my men scampering around, though, she snarled.

Her teeth bared her ears pointed towards all of us. Her eyes were squeezed shut while she tried baring through the pain. It was clear that she couldn’t see anything at all that was going on right in front of her.

The men who had left for a moment to grab the net rushed back in behind me. Even though they were so quick to get into the room, they were slow to approach Riley.

“What are you waiting for?!” I yelled in annoyance. Why would they be giving her any time to get away now? Sometimes they were just ridiculous. “Get her before she manages to heal herself!”

That seemed to kick my men into gear. They moved forward, using all the teamwork they possessed to find the perfect time to throw the net.

It took a moment for them to get the hang of it before they finally released the net as one.

Riley, who was snarling and biting at anything that she could hear or feel coming, cried out in pain as the silver-laced net encircled her being. She tried biting at some of the rope in front of her, only to yank back at the pain in the roof of her mouth.

I chuckled, shaking my head at the girl who managed to put herself in the middle of all of this. “Don’t even bother, Riley. The whole thing is laced with that metal you mutts can’t stand.”

My men took the ends of the net and quickly pulled her down to lay flush against the floor. She tried multiple times to stand back up from the position, only for the rope to dig into her thick skin. I could. practically hear her skin burn from here. What a sweet sound that was.

“Now, why don’t we get back to that prison cell I hand-selected for you?” She snarled still under the netting, yet they ended with a pained cry just seconds later. “You’ve just shown me all your cards. That just means I won’t let any of this happen again. You hear me?”

Her head shifted to find where my voice was coming from while I slowly walked around the wolf to get a good look at her.

I whistled, staring down at her. Her head shifted immediately towards. where I was from under the net. “And what a surprise this was! I have never seen a creature quite like you.”

She bared her teeth at me, which only had me rolling my eyes. Any threats were null since she was stuck under that net of mine. “You should be taking that as a compliment,” I said with a huff.

I was just about to send my men to bring her back to the cell she was supposed to be locked in. Luckily enough for me, I had one set on the other side of Nicolas, just for her inconvenience.

Another one of my men, who wasn’t a part of her attack, rushed into the room. I sent a glare back at him, ready for him to explain himself.

“Sir, it looks like hundreds of lycans are swarming us outside!”
