Genesis' Spirit of Goddess

Chapter 6.

Sophia isn’t one to push a conversation like Sara or Aïssatou. She’s ok with sitting in silence, which is exactly what I needed after her blunt honesty.

We left the locker room, I ask “Hey, you don’t have to tell me everything. But… I missing something here aren’t I?”

“What do you mean?” She ask.

“You guys are making a big deal about who my mom is. Her name seems to hold meaning?”

“How much do you know, Azah?”

“Not enough since your asking.”

“Hhmm. Yeshua Moons is your cousin and either Josiah told him who you or he may have just sensed you. All Moons can sense each other’s presences. Don’t ask me how, I’m not one so I wouldn’t know. Your last name.. Well.. I mean your mom’s last name is a high-rank name.”

Even more curious now I asked “High rank? Yeshua is my cousin?”

“Yes. We have Alpha, Beta, Gamma. And then there’s the Moons family who outranks everyone else but is equal to an Alpha. That’s just my simple way to explain the complicated ranking between Moons and the town’s council. Didn’t your mom tell you anything before you came to this town?” She ask. Surprised by my lack of knowledge of having a cousin let alone a full-on family here in town.

“Alpha? Beta? Gamma? What’s special about them?”

“You should go to the town’s library, there are books all about your family. Or you should ask your mom.”

“She never told me anything.”

Walking in silence yet again, leaving me to wonder. She is the first to break the silence “ We are not human Azah. I just want you to know that. Sorry I have to go.”

She gave me a hug. “Yeah… Thanks, Sophia.”

After watching Sophia leave I started texting my brother to come and pick me up, I stood there thinking over what Sophia and that annoying chic Jaz had said. “Towns Library? Not human?”

--————

I am silent throughout the whole drive back home. My thoughts are elsewhere, I didn’t even realize that we had arrived home till Joshua park dad’s porche car right next to another car.

“Who’s home?” Assuming we had a guest in.

“Mom and Dad bought you a new car.”

“Oh Wow.”

My parents aren’t the kind to do a big reveal. They rather just text or tell you straight up on what they got you. The whole family hate surprises and honestly don’t understand why people get soo excited about them. I rather you tell me straight up than have me play a guessing game, wasting both our times. Joshua threw the keys to my new cobalt blue Mercedes Benz S-Class Maybach.

“You ok?” A reasonable question to ask. It may have look strange to Joshua considering that any other teenager would have shown their excitement to see their very own car, instead I just stood looking at the car bewildered. Face blank and everything. I had already told dad and mom that I needed a car since we live a bit farther uphill from the nearest bus stop.

“ Yeah, just a long day.” I paused, contemplating what to tell Joshua. Maybe he knows something that I don’t know. He is waiting for me to talk, Joshua knows me inside and out. He calls me an open book. To him, I can’t hide anything especially when I’m deep in thought about something.

“You ever feel like Mom has been hiding something from us?”

“Yeah. This town is her hometown. You were very young when we visited, but it’s been years since then.”

“Oh. What about the possibility that people here aren’t human? Or the fact that mom is related to a well-known family?”

Joshua gave a scrutiny look at me. “ I stopped asking about mom’s family ever since that one time she freaked out on me. I was only six years old and you were three. Till then I didn’t take much thought about it, and dad’s family is big enough to place that void of not knowing your other family. I don’t know Azah, coming here has been sus but the whole, not human part…. It just seems a bit off.”

“What if I told you that my friend told me she isn’t human, and that we can find more about mom’s family in the town’s library.″

“Joshua, I saw our cousin.”

That part caught his attention the most. He was about to say something till Mom came.

“How was school bubbles?” She asked as she kissed my forehead.

I didn’t know what to say, a part of me wants answers and another is afraid to find them. Looking to Joshua for guidance. Thankful that Joshua took notice of the uncertainty in my eyes and said “Az is trying to adapt, that’s all. Today wasn’t easy on her.”

“Oh bubes. It’ll get easier in time.”

I couldn’t take it anymore, “I saw my cousin Yeshua.”

Joshua stood in shock. This is an impulse move, he knows I don’t do impulsive moves without thinking things through and talking it over with someone. But today, I’ve been impulsive and I didn’t feel any guilt over it.

Why stop then?

That voice is becoming louder and louder as if I had a second self hidden. If I did, it’s now awake, and ready to make trouble. My mom didn’t make any sudden movements, but she wasn’t quick to mask her emotions when I mentioned his name.

Nervously fidgeting around the family room she asks “ Did you talk to him.”

Is mom nervous? If my mom had ever been nervous then she had done a good job hiding it. The only times I had ever seen her be vulnerable is when she was battling cancer.

Any other time stood an ideal image of a superwoman. Stubborn and competitive as she is, you can’t get past her without a fight. When Joshua and I were young we would always have to be on guard when it came down to mom’s questions. She senses fear, and guilt the most.

“No. My friend Sophia pointed out who he was but obviously, I didn’t know before that.”

“Hmmm. yeah, he is your cousin. Hope you guys meet one day.” She sat down and turned on the Tv.

Joshua came to sit down across from our mom. “ Mom, Why haven’t you told us about your family. I think we are old enough to know.”

“I think some things are best left untold.”

Bullshit. That voice again.

Yes, Bullshit. “I had a panic attack today. I saw someone in the mirror who looked a lot like me but her eyes were glowing cyan blue. And my eyes were glowing the same colour as her eyes.”

That had her attention, she snapped her head to my directions. This isn’t the mom I knew. She has a whole new demeanour. Feeling a powerful energy as it emerges from her.

Before, I would have convinced myself that my mind is just playing tricks but after what I’ve seen today. I would be a fool to think otherwise. For one split second, I see her eyes glow in anger before they went back to their original light blue colour. Closing her eyes, she takes in a deep breath then exhales.

Her eyes were still closed and her head bent down as she breaks her silence “ I knew it wasn’t a good idea to move back here.”

“My family is different. Sometimes different isn’t always good.” Leaving Joshua and me in the family room, as she goes upstairs.

“Josh, I’m going to the town’s library tomorrow if you’re down.”

“Yeah sure. Going for a run, wanna join?”

“No, I’m good.” After the workout I had.

“Where’s Dad though?”

“You know Dad.” Joshua rolled his eyes.

Dad has a habit of being adventurous, enjoying his early retirement has doubled his “you only live once” motto. Especially after almost losing mom.

Closing my room door. Finally relaxations.

---

Come to me.

Looking around my surroundings, realizing it’s the garden I saw at school. Marvel at the view of the dozen white foliage chestnut trees rustling gently from the breeze. Hearing the lullaby of the breeze and the rustling sound the chestnut trees made. The mixed colours of herbaceous plants, annauals and bulbs bring richness in colour to the atmosphere. The sunset is merely a prelude to the dawn, yet its majesty fills my mind. Somehow this is feels more like home than home. A new smile paints itself on my face.

Before I knew it my feet began to walk, body and mind on auto-pilot. Suddenly I see her with rich ochre colour skin and long auburn locs down to her waist. Her eyes were hazel and bright with elements of brown and green flecks. She wore a silver crescent moon-shape headdress, around her neckline is an aurora borealis pure crystal pendant necklace shaped like the crescent moon. Shining bright than the moon itself. She wore a pure white silk long dress that complimented her queenly figure. Swaying her hips to me, she is majestic.

We stood facing each other, I realized that she is me. But how?

“Yes. I am you, as you are me.”

She replied with her euphonious voice.

“I don’t understand?”

“Azah I am your spirit. You’ve been blessed to carry me.”

Carry?”

“Come to me.”

“Why do you run away from me Azah.”

What do you mean, run away!” Getting frustrated.

“You are one with the stars. Come to me. And you will find the answer to what your heart seeks most. Allow me in.”

The sun had already set. She began to slowly float above the ground. Heading up to where the sky is of a billion pure eyes of light and where the moon shines ever so bright.

As she disappears my eyes drift to rest as my skin cools from the breeze.
