Chapter 135
Chapter 135 Dewitt’s Persistence
Maxwell has been very busy these days, but no matter how busy he was, he would always come to see Camila before she fell asleep, spend some time with her, and then leave with peace of mind.
Even the caregivers envied Camila for finding a good husband.
Camila’s injury was getting better day by day. Her head didn’t hurt as much anymore, but there was a small scar left on her forehead, which bothered her a lot.
Dewitt also came every day, but he mostly came in the morning and didn’t meet Maxwell.
That day, Dewitt’s complexion was not very good, as if he had not slept all night.
Camila asked concernedly, “Did you work overtime last night? Go back and rest quickly. I have a caregiver, there’s nothing to worry about.”
“I’m not tired,” Dewitt said as he peeled an apple for Camila. “Yesterday was the day of Daniela’s burial, and it was also Daniela’s death anniversary. I didn’t sleep at all last night.”
“I remember you saying that you became a doctor for Daniela, right?” Camila
asked.
Dewitt nodded.
“It did start out that way, but later on, I thought being a doctor would be good too. At least I could do something meaningful. However, my good days are coming to an end.”
“Why?”
“My father’s health was deteriorating. He wanted me to come back to the company and help him, but I had no interest in doing business,” Dewitt also felt helpless.
“He said it would be fine if I continued to be a doctor, but the condition was that I had to sacrifice my marriage. He said I always had to do something for this family.”
Hearing this, Camila sighed.

Rich people also had troubles.
“What are you planning to do then?” Camila also sympathized with Dewitt.
“What do you think I should do? I would like to hear your opinion.”
“My opinion?” Camila felt uncomfortable under Dewitt’s intense gaze. She lowered her head and said, “This is already a dilemma, but you shouldn’t be too pessimistic either. Your father would never harm you. I’ve seen many successful family alliances.”
“Happiness? Can one be happy without an emotional foundation?” Dewitt did not receive the answer he desired, and his expression turned somewhat gloomy.
“Emotions need to be nurtured. A man with a good personality like yours would be liked by many girls.”
“Do you like it?” Dewitt suddenly held Camila’s hand.
“I got married,” Camila exclaimed, hastily pulling her hand back and accidentally knocking over the tea cup on the table. The hot water spilled directly onto Dewitt’s leg.
“What if you weren’t married?” Dewitt disregarded the burn and continued to inquire.
“But I was already married,” Camila was overwhelmed by Dewitt’s pressure.
“I said that I could wait for you to get divorced.”
“I wouldn’t choose you even if I divorced.” Camila didn’t want to hurt Dewitt, but she was well aware that their social status was too disparate and they were simply not compatible together.
She didn’t want to make Dewitt uncomfortable. After all, marriage is not just about two individuals, but also about two families.
Just like her and Maxwell, even though they had no feelings for each other, Gideon’s words made Maxwell still obey.
Come to think of it, Maxwell was quite pitiful.
Perhaps he took care of himself so much, all for the sake of fulfilling the heavy responsibility that Gideon entrusted him with, rather than out of genuine affection.

Camila felt inexplicably irritated when she thought about how Maxwell’s accommodation and care towards her were all for the purpose of having a child
with her.
“Why?” Dewitt’s face turned pale as if he had been struck.
“Because we weren’t compatible,” Camila said, trying to lighten the mood, “Your family expected you to find a wealthy heiress, but instead you wanted to be with a penniless divorcee. It would be strange if you didn’t anger them.”
“The poor devil of a second marriage?” Dewitt chuckled at Camila’s teasing, “I won’t let you speak of yourself like that. No matter how you may change, I still love
you.”
