Chapter Benson 83
Chapter 83 Unexpected Trouble
Benson slouched on the sofa, his whole body sinking into it lazily, as if he had no bones.
His gaze wandered aimlessly, the deep night outside and the distant lights of tall buildings mirroring his chaotic thoughts. The phone in his hand still had its screen lit, illuminating every line on his face.
“Mary was right,” he muttered to himself, his voice slow and low.
Behind the facade of tendemess and affection he showed Yvonne, Benson knew it was just an act, a game from which both could benefit.”
He enjoyed her adoration while keeping a space in his heart for the one he truly loved.
For years, Benson had been searching for the woman who haunted his dreams. During this time, he kept himself pure, sometimes even laughing at himself late at night.
He imagined showing off his loyalty when they met again.
However, reality often differs from imagination. Upon returning to his homeland, Benson considered himself fallen. His actions made him feel ashamed, like a frivolous man who flirted around.
Now, he didn’t even know how to face her, how to explain the events of these years and his mistakes.
Leaning back on the sofa, his brows furrowed, revealing his inner turmoil and conflict. He pinched the bridge of his nose, where stress and guilt had accumulated.
Regarding Yvonne, he knew he didn’t truly like her. There was something admirable about her, her graceful demeanor that captivated him for a moment.
But that was ultimately shallow, a substitute for the deep loneliness and longing within him.
Reflecting on it, the thing that troubled him the most might be that night at the old house when he was supposed to collect the divorce papers but was drugged by Mary.
Would he feel more at ease if nothing had happened that night?
Benson took a deep breath, trying to calm the turmoil within. He put down his phone, stood up slowly, and looked out at the deep night, his gaze complicated.
George’s phone rang, breaking the silence of the night and pulling Benson from his thoughts.
With slightly trembling fingers, he answered the call, hearing news that tightened his heart.
After hanging up, George’s expression was as heavy and unreadable as twilight. “Miss Mary had a miscarriage.” His voice was hoarse and low, as if the words were squeezed from his throat. Benson froze, his eyes reflecting a mix of disbelief and sympathy. “She was really pregnant?” he stammered, staring at his visibly shaken friend, seeking answers in George’s pale face.
Benson and Mary’s relationship had entangled from an old pendant.
It was a family heirloom, given to him by his grandparents when they passed away, symbolizing the family’s heritage and love.
On the passionate night when he and Mary vowed to be together, he had hung it around her neck, the metal cold yet precious.
But fate loves to play tricks. Just before they were about to marry, Benson’s father died unexpectedly. Penniless, the only thing he could sell was that pendant filled with memories
He remembered clearly that Yvonne’s father supposedly helped them, and the faint floral scent on her became his last tender memory.
But when he tried to retrieve the pendant, disaster struck again. Yvonne’s house caught fire, turning the entire resort and half the mountain to ashes.
Desperately, Benson searched for the pendant and found a clue in a small shop: the jade shop owner said the pendant had been sold several times.
After much effort, he finally learned the current ‘owner was Mary.
Knowing this filled him with mixed emotions, especially learning she had fallen to working in nightclubs, which pained him deeply.
However, when they met again, she wasn’t the image he had in his heart.
She still looked fresh and lovely, resembling the pure girl from before but also different.
His e
emotions weren’t as intense as he imagined, Instead, he felt a sense of relief.
Although they didn’t share much personally, Mary knew some people and things from his past, which led Benson to introduce her to the entertainment industry
Time passed like water, and Benson still didn’t know much about her personal life or if she had boyfriend.
*Should we visit the hospital?” George leaned against the office door frame, his eyes showing a trace of concern. His brows were furrowed, his voice hesitant.
Benson didn’t look up from his computer, his hands still busy tapping on the desk, seemingly unaffected by the question
“What’s there to see? I’m not the child’s father.” Benson’s voice was dismissive and cold, his attitude indicating he had distanced himself from the matter.
The news of Mary’s miscarriage due to her ‘overindulgence‘ had caused quite a stir in their social circle.
Although it was her own lack of restraint, if Mary made a scene, it would undoubtedly around her, especially his wife.
Benson knew Mary’s character, she wouldn’t silently endure this.
y affect everyone
But perhaps after yesterday’s shock, she might restrain herself a bit, at least not causing more public trouble.
However, the next day, as expected, the news of Mary’s ‘suspected‘ miscarriage spread like wildfire online.
The news even alarmed Charles and his wife, who had once strongly opposed their son’s marriage to Mary.
Now, even when their son had a chance to avoid disaster, they felt powerless to intervene in this mess.
Meanwhile, in another city, Victoria’s heart was full of sympathy and concern for Yvonne. The morning sun hadn’t completely dispelled the night when she hurriedly called.
“Yvonne, you know I don’t like to interfere, but… are you okay?” Victoria’s voice was filled with apology and deep concern.
Hearing her mother–in–law’s voice, Yvonne felt a warmth inside. Despite her marriage to Benson being over, his parents had always tried to make up for his coldness in their own

you, Mom, I’m… I’m fine.” Yvonne’s voice choked up slightly as she tried to sound strong. “I’ll come

to the old house this Saturday. We can arrange flowers and chat.”
After hanging up, Yvonne quickly composed herself, put on her professional suit, and stepped into her busy work life.
As the news about Mary spread, the young women in the office started whispering, discussing the sensational gossip.

“Did you hear? Benson and Mary had another woman involved in Biscayne. It’s unbelievable!” The young women exchanged their opinions and guesses excitedly.
Yvonne overheard these words, feeling a wave of bitterness. Thinking of her days in Biscayne, everything seemed like yesterday.
But now, she no longer cared about these disturbances because she was about to start a new life–a life without Benson.
For her, no matter what the outside world said, no matter how rumors spread, it was no longer relevant. After all, she had decided to divorce and restart her life.
