Chapter Benson 82
Chapter 82 The Weight of Memorles
Mary didn’t get what she wanted, and neither did Yvonne. She couldn’t understand why she felt relieved despite everything going wrong.
The next morning, the air was thick with an oppressive silence. Benson arrived uninvited, with George in
tow.
George, looking every bit the professional, set up a high–definition camera in the corner of her living room, meticulously adjusting the angle and focus to ensure everything was clearly recorded.
Meanwhile, Benson casually tossed a packet of pills onto the coffee table, his voice cold and emotionless. “Take them.”
Mary felt a chill run down her spine. She forced a smile, trying to probe, “Benson, what is this?”
“It’s what you gave her that night. I’m returning it to you,” Benson’s words were simple and cold, as if discussing the weather. His dark eyes were empty and deep.
Mary looked at his profile, so handsome like a god banished to earth. Despite his looks, his cruelty and coldness couldn’t be hidden.
Mary was filled with fear but had to beg softly. She tried to find a hint of weakness in him, but he just lit a cigarette, the smoke curling around him with a faint aloofness.
“Take them and film yourself. If it’s not clear, take more until the whole process is captured,” Benson’s voice was as cold as if it came from a deep, icy abyss, devoid of warmth.
Mary resignedly nodded, accepting the harsh reality. She knew that Benson could be this cruel for Yvonne’s sake.
She staggered to the coffee table, her trembling hands picking up the pills and putting them in her mouth. The bitterness almost made her vomit, but she held back.
“Isn’t it enough? Once isn’t enough to repay her?” Mary’s voice was filled with pleading and confusion.
“Do
you deserve to compare yourself to her? What are you?” Benson dismissed her question with disdain, his gaze full of disgust, as if she were a stain in his life.
Finally, Benson turned to leave, his steps firm and unquestionable. Mary collapsed to the ground, tears flowing uncontrollably as she called out to him, “Benson…” Her voice was filled with helplessness and despair.
“You enjoy Yvonne’s love without any guilt, while waiting for that person to show up. You’re truly despicable!
Benson’s back stiffened slightly, as if her words had pierced his heart.
He turned back, seeing Mary’s face twisted into a mocking smile, as if taunting him for all his hypocrisy and cruelty.
hed
Even if he did something for Yvonne, it wasn’t what she wanted.
The cracks in their marriage were deep, seemingly impossible to repair.
Back home, the rainy night’s chill lingered in the air.
On the dark brown wooden floor, Benson’s steps were heavy. The living room lights were soft, and the sound of rain tapping on the windows was Incessant. He held a stack of documents, records of Yvonne’s
career.
Yvonne, at 21, graduated from Parsons School of Design with dreams and ambition. She joined the Taylor Group, embarking on her career in supply chain procurement.
This job was undoubtedly challenging for a recent graduate, but the documents showed how quickly Yvonne adapted and excelled.
Under her efforts, Taylor Group transformed from a minor player into an industry giant, significantly improving supply chain efficiency and revenue.
She even established an effective management team, showcasing her intelligence and capability throughout the company’s operations.
Benson had always arrogantly thought Yvonne’s success was due to her parents‘ support. But the recent Interactions with her and these documents made him reconsider.
Maybe he had misunderstood her all along, knowing too little about her.
At this moment, George hurried into the living room, breaking Benson’s thoughts. George, wearing a plaid shirt, looked uneasy. He asked in a low voice, “Did she go back?*
Yeah, she drove home after dropping Marcus off,” Benson glanced at the wall clock. It was already 10:30
- PM.
Benson frowned, filled with curiosity about what they talked about for so long. This curiosity made him. uneasy yet strangely fascinated–he found himself deeply curious about Yvonne.
George noticed the documents in Benson’s hands and sighed, shaking his head, “You’re about to divorce, and now you’re starting to understand your wife. Isn’t it a bit too late?”
Benson’s eyes grew complicated as he looked at the documents, feeling an unknown emotion rising within him. Why did he wait until now to truly understand Yvonne? Had he never given her the attention she deserved?
This realization made Benson feel a pang of regret. He stood up and walked to the window, looking at the rain–soaked street outside, everything blurred in the night.
Maybe the problems between him and Yvonne weren’t so easily fixed. But now he realized that perhaps he had never truly tried to understand and fix things, which was the deepest part of the rift in their relationship.
George still stood by, his hands lightly clasped in front of him, his gaze thoughtful as he looked at the soft sunset filtering through the window.
Benson noticed his hesitation and said sternly, “Sit. His tone carried an undeniable authority.
George hesitated for a moment, finally facing this important conversation. He slowly walked to the chair opposite and sat down.
His heart was filled with tension and unease as he spoke, nearly choking on his words, “Why did you advise me to divorce?” His words were heavy with emotion.
His thoughts drifted back to the past, remembering his close friend Matthew, who always tried to bring him and Yvonne together like Victoria does now.
Recently, Victoria seemed to have disappeared, no longer calling, as if she had given up on intervening in
his life.
Similarly, Matthew too. George’s silence was particularly heavy. Benson finally spoke, his tone softer but sincere. “You all couldn’t stand it anymore, seeing how disappointed she is in me?”
Benson was silent for a while, knowing this conversation would be difficult but necessary.
Chapter 02 The Weight of Memories.
He recalled a conversation with Yvonne where she asked him what he had given her in this marriage. Was it three years of waiting, or the humiliating scene where she leaned over the coffee table… Benson’s heart. was filled with guilt and pain.
George finally broke the silence, “Mary already knows about your feelings for someone else. You don’t like your wife much either. Being with the one you truly care about would be better.” He tried to say it calmly, but each word weighed heavily on Benson.
Benson felt a complex mix of emotions.
always held
He knew George was right. That person was the one he always held onto, the one he sought but couldn’t let go of.
But with Yvonne, he couldn’t muster the courage to ask for a divorce, unable to let her go!
