Benson

Chapter 86

Chapter 86 Entangled with Love and Hate

Yvonne looked up at Benson sitting across from her. He was dressed in a plain knitted sweater and loose casual pants, lounging lazily on the sofa cushions, his eyes shining softly.

His smile was gentle, and the lines at the corners of his eyes seemed to speak of endless warmth, looking no different from a genuinely loving husband.

However, Yvonne knew all too well that he was not her deal partner.

In this cozy room, the children’s laughter and the sunlight streaming through the windows painted a harmonious family picture on the carpet.

As Yvonne gently soothed little Emma in her arms, she occasionally exchanged glances with Benson. There was no intense emotional fluctuation in her eyes, only a faint helplessness and indifference.

She knew that arguing with him was fruitless, so she chose to remain silent.

The oppressive atmosphere gradually enveloped the room. Benson realized he wasn’t getting the reaction. he wanted here, but he didn’t seem disappointed. His gaze remained fixed on Yvonne, as if trying to find a breakthrough from her withdrawn attitude.

At that moment, Lucas, the five–month–old baby weighing 19 pounds, was bouncing around in the living room. It was clearly exhausting for the already frail Yvonne to hold him.

Seeing Yvonne slightly bent over, Benson couldn’t help but speak up, trying to break the impasse, “Shall hold him?” He said, standing up and slowly walking towards her.

But Lucas didn’t seem to like him. As Benson approached, the little guy clung tightly to Yvonne, his small hands gripping her sweater firmly.

Seeing this, Benson frowned, his tone carrying both helplessness and a cold command, “Let go, this isn’t yours.”

He reached out to remove Lucas’s small hand from Yvonne’s sweater, an action that left Yvonne feeling shockingly cold.

She stared at him, disbelief in her eyes, “Are you… sick? She couldn’t understand Benson’s strange behavior.

Ever since Arthur and his wife went out, Yvonne had been holding the baby for hours, either cradling him on the sofa or walking around, talking gently to him.

Neither Victoria nor the other servants could hold Lucas, as Yvonne always refused them.

Her attention to Lucas wasn’t just out of responsibility, but more of an emotional outpouring. She lovingly said, “I really like him. Feeling his little body nestling wholeheartedly in my arms, the warm touch and complete dependence bring me an indescribable warmth and emotion.”

The new servant didn’t understand the subtle and complex relationship between Yvonne and Benson. She was still immersed in the initial admiration of their appearance. She smiled and said, “You are so beautiful, and Mr. Benson is so handsome. If you had children, they would surely be the most beautiful

babies in the world.

Hearing this, Yvonne felt a stir in her heart, but she showed no reaction on the surface, just continued to play with little Lucas’s soft, warm hands, seeking solace in their touch.

Children? She once had similar dreams–imagining a future with Benson, a happy family, a boy and a girl, two little ones as smart and adorable as they were.

The boy would be a little Benson, with his father’s eyes and smile. Every time she thought of this, she couldn’t help but smile.

But now, it all seemed to be in the past. They were already divorced, and such topics felt like mockery. adding more awkwardness to an already complicated relationship.

When Yvonne remained silent, Benson didn’t seem to notice her discomfort. He casually picked up the conversation, “Yes, that’s something we should consider.” His voice was calm, as if trying to maintain some semblance of daily ease.

Victoria, watching from the side, felt a pang of sympathy.

She clearly saw Yvonne’s unhappiness. The light of anticipation in her eyes was almost gone now.

As a mother, Victoria desperately wished for her daughter’s true happiness, free from the painful

memories.

During the years when Benson was often abroad, she had seen the light of expectation in Yvonne’s eyes, a force that kept her going and waiting.

But now, facing Benson’s occasional presence, Yvonne’s expression no longer held the excitement and hope it once did.

Victoria couldn’t help but sigh, wondering if she should intervene. Perhaps she should take measures to prevent further deterioration, sparing her child from being haunted by the shadows of the past.

Home should be a warm and safe haven, not a battlefield filled with alienation and regret.

When Arthur and his wife returned, the night on campus was already deepening. Moonlight streamed through sparse clouds, illuminating the empty parking lot, silver light glinting off the stationary cars.

Yvonne sat upright in the car, her body stiff. The eyes that once held anticipation now only showed deep disappointment.

She stood up, asked Arthur for a favor, and then said goodbye to Victoria.

As Yvonne opened the door to leave, Benson hurriedly approached from the side, his face showing complex emotions.

Just as she was about to head towards the parking lot, he caught up, swiftly and somewhat awkwardly pressing down on the door to stop her from leaving.

She turned around, her expression as calm as it was cold. Her gaze, clear under the moonlight, seemed to see through to his soul.

‘Not planning to talk to me anymore?” Benson asked in a low voice, his tone carrying a hint of tremble and uncertainty. He lowered his head, avoiding her eyes.

“Sign the will you?” Yvonne’s tone was calm but carried an unspoken firmness.

Benson hesitated for a moment, taking a deep breath, “There’s really nothing between her and me.” He tried to explain.

“Whether there is or not doesn’t matter to me anymore. Yvonne’s response was short and resolute. The scars and fatigue in her heart seemed to reach their peak at that moment.

Last night, Benson had been urgently called home by his father to discuss the specifics of the divorce, making him exceptionally anxious. Especially after learning the truth about the drugging incident, his guilt towards Yvonne grew even stronger.

Benson slowly reached out, trying to touch her shoulder, wanting to convey his apology.

But Yvonne’s reaction was swift and decisive, forcefully pushing away his touch. Benson bent slightly, his. voice filled with deep remorse, “I… made you suffer.”

Hearing this, Yvonne’s eyes instantly reddened. She stared at him, tears welling up but held back with great effort.

“Yes, ever since I married you, I’ve been suffering. The previous suffering was willing, brought upon myself. You saying this now, it’s because you chose Mary… anyway, it’s just more suffering for me. Your don’t need to say anything; I don’t want to hear it, and I’m really tired.”

Yvonne took a deep breath, her voice choked yet firm, “As a husband, you are unqualified, Benson. Since you can’t shield me from the wind and rain, I no longer need you.”

She turned and walked quickly to the parked car, opened the door, and got in, her heart full of sadness and disappointment.

At that moment, her phone rang.

It was Megan, her voice urgent and shocked, “Mary’s leg has been broken by Marcus.”
