Chapter 38
Valentina
Vince and Kyle were both breathing heavily, both was very skilled in hand to hand combat. Kyle had a huge gash above his left eye, and I feared the blood would travel to his eye blinding him. Vince wasn't so well off either, his arms were cut up while trying to fend off the daggers. Kyle was like a striking cobra, getting in hits before Vince even realized what was happening.
I hated watching this, it's like they planned to fight to the death. Jannod was leaning against the wall, seemingly very bored with the whole thing.
Vince wielded his sword in a wide arch, I screamed as he ripped across Kyle's stomach. He stumbled, examining the rip in his shirt.
"Kyle?" He needed to be ok. He was the only thing standing between us and the enemies.
"I'm fine." He straightened, getting into another fighting stance. "Is that all you got?" He spat.
Vince grinned. "Oh, I'm just getting started."
"Vince stop this!" I pleaded. He didn't even spare me a glance.
He pointed the tip of his sword at Kyle. "Once I shut you up, she's next." This was not the Vince I knew.
Kyle had power I was sure, but he was choosing not to use it. Fighting as a normal mortal would, and not as the Devils brother. "Kill him Kyle!" I felt a hand on my shoulder and swung wildly, Rayne ducked, barely dodging my arm.
"We need to leave while they're distracted." She whispered in my ear.
I shook my head. "I can't just leave him." I focused on the fight, Kyle had landed another hit on Vince, but he still wasn't slowing down.
Grabbing my shoulders she made me face her. "The only guy you should be worrying about is your son, if you won't leave for us then do it for him!"
My eyes darted to Jacob, the cloth fell down a bit and I was now staring into the eyes of my son. In that one look, I knew I had to do whatever it took to get him out, even if it meant abandoning a friend.
A howl pierced the silence, I stared at the fight in horror. Somehow Vinces's sword was lodged in Kyle's stomach. He fell to the ground, weakly trying to pull it out. I rushed over kneeling next to him. "Kyle!" I went to pull the sword out but he stopped me.
"Don't touch it." He wheezed. My hands shook, I didn't know what to do.
Everyone turned at the sound of footsteps. "Hope we're not late to the party." Thazar walked towards us, with two other men on either side of him.
Jannod straightened, "I wasn't aware you'd be joining us."
"And I wasn't aware you'd be stealing my girl." That voice caused many different emotions in me. Relief, hope, longing, and fear. Fear because it sounded like Enzo, but very different, more grutal.
We all watched as the group of men parted, letting him step through. I shivered at the look on his face, deadly and craving blood. He seemed taller, more built, and even more powerful than the last time I saw him. All I wanted to do was run into his arms, but this wasn't the time to show weakness.
Draco was perched on his shoulder, but the moment he saw me he flew over. "I missed you too little buddy!" Kyle coughed next to me. Draco hoped down from my shoulder, landing on his chest.
"The Gazzak! Pull it out!" I frowned at him. One minute I wasn't to touch it and now he wants me to take it out? Without a second thought I yanked it out, cringing as blood splattered my face. I couldn't believe what happened next. Draco walked over licking the open wound. Right before my eyes the wound started to heal itself. Kyle sighed in relief.
The smug look was gone from Jannod's face, he looked beyond annoyed. "I see Tigan has failed keeping you busy." He addressed Enzo.
Enzo smirked, his eyes raking slowly over my body making sure none of the blood belonged to me, then focused back on him. "He kept me busy for the ten minutes it took me to rip his heart out." He took a step forward, and I swear the floors whimpered. "You'll keep me busy far longer, as I rip you limb from limb."
Laughter broke out in the tense atmosphere. "You'll have to go through her first to get to me." I gasped when I felt hands lock on to my arms, pulling them back. One minute he was across the room, the next he had me pinned. My eyes went to Jacob, checking to make sure our son was safe. Enzo, who was watching my every move, followed my line of vision. And that's when he exploded.
Huge wings sprouted from his back, the same ones from dinner. His fingers started lengthening, going from regular hands to talons. The skin on his body started to stretch and morph, matching the same leathery texture as his wings. Huge red horns rested on his hairline, small flames at the tip. He grew twice his normal size, dark red eyes narrowing on Jannod.
I gasped in shock, for the first time ever, I was truly seeing the Beast. And I was afraid.
