Chapter 13
"And who is this?" I stood at the edge of the table, giving them my most dazzling smile.
There were four guys in total and a few women sitting in a round about booth. They had the perfect view of the club.
The guy that spoke to me wasn't my target sadly, just the closest guy to the end of the booth. My eyes landed on my target, Enzo sent me a mental image of him before I came up here, upon realizing I didn't know what the guy looked like. "Name is Chandy." I said in my most sensual voice. "What a lovely group of men." I spoke to them all, but my gaze was only on my target.
The table was full of good looking men surprisingly, I was expecting a group of old perverts. "What a lovely lady you are." He beamed at me. Hook, line, and sink. The females at the table glared at me, obviously thinking I was trying to make an advance on their sugar daddies.
"Mind if I join?" There was enough room left for one more person.
"I would love for you to join, unfortunately - oh there you are! Right on time, I almost gave this beautiful lady your seat." He spoke excitedly to someone behind me.
The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Whoever was behind me was powerful, I could practically taste it. Did Enzo set me up? Sent me out here to look dumb only for him to show up?
A burst of anger went through me as I spun around, and got the air knocked out of my lungs. This was no Enzo.
His eyes widened when they landed on me, at least he recognized me as well. Though there's no way he couldn't have. I cocked my head to the side, studying him. He was glamoring himself, although still using his God giving face.
"Valentina?" He croacked out. I could feel a stinging behind my eyes.
"Valentina? No that's chandy." The guy at the table said. I forgot they were there, and clearly so did he. He looked over my shoulder at the group, then grabbed my hand pulling me off to the side.
"What are you doing here?" I know he meant in the club and not down here. He knows more than anyone why I'm here.
"Gabriel?" I was still shocked to see him standing there, in front of me, on earth. "What are you doing here?"
He sighed."I'm here on a mission." A mission, in other words an errand for God. Missions were the best thing that could happen to you up there as a lower level angel. Archangels went on missions all the time, because they're the most trained. They'll never get distracted.
Unless you count running into your ex that got kicked out of heaven for loving you. Was I his ex now? We never got a change to talk before I was sent down here. It's been months now and maybe longer up there, I'm sure he's moved on.
That thought caused an ache in my heart. Even after all this time, I still loved him. "Valentina?"
He was watching me, a wounded look on his face. He wanted an answer for why I was here. "I'm here because..." I trailed off, I couldn't tell him why I was here, Enzo might very well kill me, even if he claims he only wants to protect me. "I just wanted a drink." I lied. It hurt me to lie to him, but something was holding me back, and not just the thought of Enzo killing me. I didn't want him to know about Enzo, and that revelation shocked me almost as much as seeing him here.
He nodded accepting my answer, because he knows I'd never lie to him, or anyone above me. Was he still above me? I wasn't in heaven anymore, hell I was practically human now and humans always came first. "I need you to leave."
My attention snapped back to him. "What!?" It hurt looking at him, he was so handsome, and could never be mine. And now he wanted me out of his presence. "Gabriel..." I didn't know what to say, though there was so much to be said.
He looked down at me, a sad expression on his face. I know he also wanted to say more, but he was on a mission, and the mission always came first. Right now I was just in the way. "Valentina...I can't."
I nodded, the sting once again coming back. I tried not to run as I moved around him making my way to the back door. I pushed it open, sad to see the limo wasn't there. Did Enzo leave me because I didn't lure the guy out? Maybe. I sank on the ground against the wall, tears now falling freely. What mission was he on? Why did God send him? To torment me? There were no coincidences when the great divine was involved, he wanted me to see him.
A slick black limo turned the corner into the alley, I didn't have the strength to move anymore. Out of my peripheral I could see the back door open, Enzo stepped out but stood there. "The guy isn't here." I said, staring at the ground.
"Come, Valentina." I looked up at him then. His arm was extended, hand stretched out to me. I sighed, getting off the ground. He grabbed my hand when I got closer, I expected him to help me into the limo, but instead he pulled me to him. "This is just the beginning."
I frowned at him in confusion. "What?"
He shook his head at me, a small smirk on his face. "They'll regret what they did to you." I opened my mouth to ask about his rambling but he pushed me, not so gently, into the limo.
"Asshole." I mumbled.
He slid in behind me. "Take her home before her human gets worried." He said to Vince up front.
I doubt Jacob would be worried if I was gone for a night. Two nights? Then he'd file a missing person report. But I wasn't going to tell Enzo this, I was ready to go home. "Vince is staying with you, right?"
"Wrong."
My hands curled into a fist, he was so...ugh! "I don't need a bodyguard! I'm very capable of taking care of myself."
"I know you are." He simply said.
I glared, "and I'm not pregnant."
"Of course you're not." He watched me from the other side of the limo, a hint of a smile on his face. He could tell how much he was getting to me. I decided to stop humoring him for the rest of the ride. "Nothing else to say?" He pushed. I folded my arms. "It's so peaceful when you keep your mouth shut, wish you did it more often." All I could offer was a stronger glare.
