Chapter 229
Chapter 229
Carter stopped abruptly as he spotted Jerome emerging from the safety door after a call.
He blurted out, “Jerome, you have to stand up for Kylie! Look how devastated she is now!”
Jerome glanced over at Mikayla, only to be met with her deadpan eyes.
Mikayla managed to deduce what happened from Carter’s words.
Kylle fell sick in the resort after she took the medicine Jerome bought.
She was then rushed to the hospital to have her stomach flushed out, and Carter suspected that Mikayla was responsible for the incident.
It turned out that Jerome left in a hurry because Kylie was admitted to the hospital.
She was summoned to the hospital for Kylie’s sake as well.
“Dad, this might be a misunderstanding. Don’t put Jerome in a tough spot,” Kylie interrupted weakly.
“Kylie, you’re being too considerate!” Carter exclaimed.
His heart ached as he continued, “Tell me, how many times did Mikayla hurt you? I wouldn’t have known if it wasn’t for Agatha’s slip!”
Kylie endured her discomfort and replied, “Those were just some minor injuries. It’s not a big deal. Jerome had already apologized in her stead, after all.”
“Minor injuries? Don’t you take me as a fool! Your head was literally bleeding, and there were bruises on your neck. You would’ve been strangled to death if Jerome didn’t show up in the nick of time! Carter
hollered.
“I demand an explanation for this, no matter what!” He glowered at Mikayla.
Just then, the elevator arrived.
Jerome said calmly, “Mr. White, let’s head to the ward first. We’ll discuss this there.”
“Alright.” Carter’s tone was laced with fury as he began to wheel Kylie’s gurney into the elevator.
Mikayla remained rooted to the spot.
Jerome chanced another glance at her and said, “Come with us.”
She sneered. “What does this have to do with me? Why did you ask for me, and why should I follow you guys to the ward?”
“Why, you!” Carter almost burst into a fit of rage, but Kylie tugged on his sleeve.
“Forget it, Dad. Let her be.”
Seeing how unwavering Mikayla was, Jerome politely urged the two nurses to leave first. “Please give us
a moment.”

The nurses, perhaps stunned by his domineering presence, exchanged glances and left.
The elevator’s door closed, and Jerome’s gaze shifted toward Mikayla.
“Did you tamper with Kylie’s medicine in the car tonight?”
Mikayla scowled. “Can’t you at least let me know what happened before you start interrogating me? I literally have no clue about what’s happening. How am I supposed to answer your question?”
Jerome ignored her taunt, and continued coolly, “I had people verify, the medicine, and it’s perfectly fine. So, it isn’t the pharmacy’s fault. The server didn’t stop anywhere else when she delivered the medicine.”
*Since you already have an answer and have me convicted, what’s the point of asking me again?” Mikayla scoffed.
A hint of anger flashed across his face. “Quit the nonsense, Mikayla. We’re dealing with facts here. Kylie ingested propranolol tablets, which are incompatible with the antibiotic amoxicillin by error. Her condition was nearly fatal. I requested for you here to get rid of any possibilities.”
Mikayla decided to set her displeasure from being doubted aside. She figured acting spiteful wasn’t going
to solve the issue.
She recomposed herself and said, “I didn’t tamper with her medicine, so I have no idea what you’re talking
about.”
Jerome’s expression was indiscernible as he replied, “The pharmacy’s security footage showed that you lingered around the antibiotics section for quite some time.
In fact, Mikayla did linger around in front of some shelves to avoid Jerome. “Then, you should’ve known that I did not purchase any propranolol tablets.”
