Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Nora POV
T’m going to get someone to bring our bags inside. Can you wait here?” Blake asked me when we got out of the car in front of the stone steps to his castle.
“Sure,” I said, nodding.
Twas still flushed and flustered from the conversation we had in the car and I tried to avoid eye contact with Blake. I knew that if I looked at him, I’d turn bright red again.
While Blake was inside, I went over to one of the plant pots on the edge of the courtyard and I ran my fingers along a purple ‘carnation stem. Leaning in, I sniffed the flower, holding my hair out of my face.
The courtyard was full of members from neighboring packs that had come to ask the king for favors. They would come every few weeks to apply for certain ordinances or get building permits and other things so they could keep their own packs running smoothly.
There were a lot of things that had to be approved by the king before Alphas could put them into action.
Based on the crowd, it looked like it would be a busy night for Blake to go over all the requests, despite him saying his schedule was clear. I blush again at his seductive suggestion.
“Absolutely stunning,” a masculine voice said nearby.
Creasing my brow, I stood straight and looked for the source of the voice.
There was a male wolf approaching me. I hadn’t seen him before but there were always people coming and going from the castle courtyard.
“Oh, yeah. These flowers have been new since the last time I was here. They do look really nice in the courtyard.” I said, playing with the carnation again.
“No, not the flowers. You, my dear. You are absolutely stunning,” he clarified.
“Ahh,” I laughed nervously and tucked my hands behind my back.
“I’m sorry, did I embarrass you?” he asked, coming to my side. He plucked the purple carnation and handed it to me.
I creased my brow. Who was this guy? He was bold, picking one of the Lycan King’s flowers.
“No, you didn’t embarrass me. I think the king would be upset if he saw you picking his carefully selected flowers,” I said, declining the carnation.
“You assume the king is observant enough to notice,” the man said, smirking. He was trying to flirt with me.
I shook my head. “I should go.”
Turning, I went to walk away and the guy grabbed my wrist. “Where are you going, sweetheart?”
“You seem nice, but I have places I need to be,” I said, trying to let him down gently.
“Hey!” Blake shouted from across the courtyard. “Who the hell do you think you are!?”
He ran up to me and slid between me and the other man.
“King Blake,” the guy said, freezing in place. He put the flower behind his back and dropped it on the ground. “I was just admiring your flowers.”

No you were flirting with my wife,” Blake snapped.
“W–wife?” the guy asked, swallowing audibly. He looked at me with wide, terrified eyes.
That’s right, my wife. You think you can come into my home with a request to fulfill, and then hit on my wife?” he asked.
“Blake” I warned, grabbing his arm.
Me shook me off, eyes blazing with anger as he advanced on the guy that flirted with me.
When he’ll faced off with Jeremy, he hadn’t looked like that. He’d been calm and in control because it was an act.
Now, he was angry, really angry. Was he actually jealous?
“I didn’t know, Your Majesty. I’ll…” trailing off, the guy turned on his heel and ran into the crowd, disappearing.
The rest of the people in the courtyard stopped their milling about and watched Blake and me.
My stomach twisted. Blake was on the verge of blowing up in such a public place. I’d gotten used to calming him down when we were alone, but this was different.
Blake rounded on me, eyes ablaze, nostrils flaring. “What were you doing with that guy?”
“It was nothing. He was just talking to me about the flowers,” I said, trying to use rationality. “He probably didn’t know we are married”
“You’re speaking for other men now?” Blake scoffed, his eyes blazed angrily at me.
Rationality wasn’t going to work. I had to try something else.
“No. I’m just saying, he didn’t do it to intentionally insult you,” I clarified.
“That man is obviously blind if he doesn’t know who you are to me,” Blake snarled.
Smiling and laughing lightly, I put my hand on Blake’s shoulder. “You know, you’re really adorable when you get like this.”
Stunned, the anger cooled in Blake’s eyes. He snorted and stalked off.
At least he wasn’t exploding with anger.
I looked around at the rest of the people in the courtyard. They were still staring at me.
“What are you all looking at?” I asked, putting my hands on the hips.
“The King’s temper is getting worse, you should find a way to calm him down,” someone in the crowd said.
I creased my brow. It had been a few weeks since I’d seen Blake but he’d seemed in control when we were going against Jeremy.
“He’s not out of control,” I said, defending him.
“Not yet,” another voice in the crowd said.
“He lashes out almost every day.”
“He’s a king and needs to control that temper of his.”
Fearful murmurs went through the crowd. Blake’s temper was legendary and no one wanted to be on the wrong end of it.
So, Blake was getting out of control with his anger. Other people saw it, and have sensed that it’s getting worse. As Blake’s wife and queen, it was my responsibility to balance him out.

Blake sighed and pressed his forehead to my back. “You’re a little vixen.”
