Alpha King’s Wolfless Mate by Scarlett Higgins

Chapter 131

Chapter 131**Blake POVGraham’s voice echoed over the chaos of the ongoing battle.A litany of howls went up in response to his order. Screams of pain followed as the fighting continued with renewed vigor.I couldn’t waste any more time messing around. I had to stop Graham if there was any hope of calling off his warriors. We were outnumbered and my men were holding their own, but it wouldn’t be long before they were overwhelmed.I ran at Graham. I threw a punch at him and when he moved to block it, I grabbed his elbow and pulled him off balance. As he staggered, I slammed my fi st into his solar plexus.A pained, breathless sound was forced from him as he doubled over. I kneed him in the stomach before he could right himself. mHe staggered back and stood upright with one hand on his stomach. He glared at me in a rage.He really wasn’t prepared for me to pose a challenge, was he? He had let all of his defenses down. It was far too easy to landthat first blow.It wouldn’t be so easy to land another. Graham righted his stance and flew at me. I blocked and dodged, but it wasn’t easy. He was faster than I was. I was stronger though, if the blows I managed to block were an indication. This was going to be a close match, and unfortunately, one that took longer than I wanted to resolve. The scent of blood was becoming thick in the air. It made it hard to keep myself focused. The smell sparked a deep rage within me that was unlike anything I had ever felt before. If I wasn’t careful, I might end up hurting someone that I shouldn’t.I threw my head back and howled. In an instant, the fighting had shifted. All of my warriors rushed toward the castle and put their backs to the building. With the castle at their backs, they couldn’t be snuck up on. This also put them in closer proximity to their allies which would offer some assistance if anyone found themselves in trouble.Confused growls rang out around me as the movement happened. Graham’s men didn’t know what was going on and faltered in theirattack. The hesitation was to our advantage, and I could see that several of my warriors, including Christian, had gotten the jump on their opponents. There was a small female wolf beside him that I recognized as Margot. She was putting up a far more vicious fight than I would have expected from her. Her teeth tore at the back and shoulders of the nearest Lanecreek warrior, who howled in pain and surprise at her attack. On the other side of the house, Maisi e was holding her own against multiple attackers. This wasn’t the worst battle she had ever been in, though it must be close. She was in a rage as she lashed out at anyone within reach. There was blood staining her fur already. My people were fighting for their lives, and it showed. There was no sign of Nora.I could only hope that she had done the wise thing and gone to the panic room in the castle after setting off the emergency alarm. Without a wolf, there was no way she could help in this fight. I had to believe that she was safe, or I wouldn’t be able to focus on what I had to do now.Graham flew at me and threw a punch at myface. I caught his fi st and twisted his arm until he lost his balance and crashed to the ground. He rolled away from me before I could attempt to kick him.I could hear the cries of pain as my warriors struggled to hold off multiple assailants. If I had only known that Lanecreek’s numbers were so high, I would have called for backup from another pack. I had no idea there would be so many men willing to fight for Graham. Or at least, for Graham’s money. The blaring of the siren filled the air every few minutes and deafened everyone near the castle, but it wasn’t enough to disrupt the battle.Graham managed to land a glancing blow to my face and I staggered back out of his reach. He cursed in frustration and tried to land another punch, but I ducked and hit him under the ribs.

I grit my teeth. We were too evenly matched. We could go like this all day and get nowhere.“Enough playing around!”I shouted.“Fightme like an Alpha!”I discarded my jacket and tore my shirt open, tossing it aside. It was absurd to continue fighting in formalwear. This entire situation was absurd. If I couldn’t overpower Graham easily in this form, then I would just have to try another. Graham sneered as he realized what I was doing.“It doesn’t matter,” Graham shouted.“I’ll killyou no matter what form you take!”“I’m going to tear your throat out,”I saidcalmly.Graham didn’t laugh and his growl stuck in his throat. His eyes flashed gold as he began to shift. Black fur began to sprout along his arms and he hunched over and snarled at me. I growled back at him.I rolled my shoulders and the familiar rippling sensation that preceded the shift passed through my muscles.Good. He was finally realizing the situation that he was in. I may have been raised a prince, but that didn’t mean that I was soft. I knew the taste of blood and the glassy look that came into an opponent’s eyes when you took their life. I wasn’t afraid to take this to the bitter end.The moment I completed my shift, I was on Graham. My teeth sank into his shoulder and I tasted blood. A pained cry escaped him as he tried to shake me off, which onlycaused my teeth to do more damage. The cacophony of growls and cries around us was almost deafening. Combined with the smell of blood, it overwhelmed my senses. I was losing myself in the fight.IBooks

was aware of the pain of Graham’s attacks against me, but only distantly. I was so focused on drawing more blood from him, that the reality of the damage he was doing to me seemed very far away.I thrashed my head back and forth as Graham struggled to get free of my jaws. When I finally released, Graham skidded across the ground on his side, leaving a smear of blood behind him.I stalked toward him where he lay on the ground, struggling to get back to his feet.He glared up at me with his ears flat and growled menacingly. I kept steadily approaching him. He might get his teeth into me again, but I didn’t care. I was going to kill him.All of this was his fault. The blood smell in the air, the cries of pain, the fire burning the garden to ash; it was all because of Graham.I had spent so many mornings gazing out of the window in my office and watching the way that the sunlight shone on Nora’s hair asshe sipped at her morning coffee there. Those quiet, peaceful moments meant everything to me. I would never get that view again because of him.I didn’t even know where Nora was right now. For all that I knew, she was caught by one of his ro gue mercenaries…No. I couldn’t show any mercy now. If I didn’t end Graham, the fighting would continue to spread and the entire pack would be at risk. I couldn’t allow anyone else to be hurt because of my family.A shrill scream cut through the chaos and Graham and I both turned toward the sound. It was a woman screaming. My heart stuttered in fear as I looked for the source. There was a female form collapsed in a growing puddle of blood. The form was still and above it, a large wolf stood with blood dripping from her maw.I recognized the wolf as Maisie. She lifted her head and shook the blood from her face, then trotted away from the b*dy with a derisive scoff.𝓌𝘸𝘄.𝓝o𝓥é𝕝w𝓞𝗥ⓜ.𝘤𝚘𝕄Beside me, Graham growled in rage as we both recognized the b*dy of the slain woman. It was Kelly.
