A Single Lifetime | Novella

Chapter acknowledgments

This was my sixth story on Wattpad and I’ve been doing this for nearly four years now, yet I still don’t know how to start acknowledgements. Often, I pretend like I’m giving a speech and thanking my family and friends after receiving an award because it helps…

For a very long time, I’ve wanted to write a hijabi character because I don’t get to see *a lot* of them in books, especially not ones who possess seismic or supernatural abilities.

While writing A Single Lifetime I was afraid that nobody would relate to Fajr or that she would be too annoying because she was so damn punctual. But a few days ago I found out that certain people have this problem called time blindness and they develop an innate awareness of time and an ability to track it’s passing. This was after I had finished writing it and I screamed internally when I read about the problem because it was such a happy coincidence, and it means that someone on the other side of the screen might be able to relate to Fajr.

I really hope that you guys liked reading about her, just as much as I loved creating this small little world. For anyone who was wondering, these characters are Pakistani. It’s just Pakistan eight-hundred(give or take)years into the future. Wouldn’t it be cool if supernaturals existed nearly a millenia from now?

Thank you to Wattpad and FindNovel.net and everyone who read the novella. Huge shoutout to my Instagram followers and the readers who have stuck with me since The Last Star. I’m sending everyone a virtual hug. Lots of love to my family, mostly my parents for being so supportive. Especially my mom who has to listen to me babble about fictional characters and books and writing all day long. And, to my dad because I deplete his bank account each month when I go crazy at the bookstore.

I can’t remember exactly when I got the idea for A Single Lifetime. Many things inspired the story along with the thousands of Wattpad authors–mostly the ones that write stories under ten chapters or less–who taught me how to say a lot in fewer words.

See you in the next one<3
