Chapter Chapter Twenty One
The sun was beginning to set, and we all sat in the truck staring at the building for what felt like a million years. We had been sitting here for a little over an hour, watching and waiting to see if anyone stepped in or out of that building. So far nothing.
Another twenty minutes and there was still no sign of the President or his men. A frustrated sigh escaped my lips as I plopped back down in my seat.
"This is a waste of time, they're not here." I gestured to the building. No one has entered or left the building in the past hour. It was starting to worry me even more. I quickly stood up from where I was sitting and opened the back doors of the truck.
"Sam! Hold up!" Kyles voice spoke up. I didn't even bother to look at him, just continued to make my way towards the building. A hand on my shoulder immediately stopped me in my tracks.
"Sam...slow down. What's the rush?"
I quickly turned to face my younger brother as I took in a deep breath.
"I'm...pregnant..okay?" I breathed out. His eyes widened at my words. He opened his mouth to speak but nothing to came out. Shaking his head he took a breath before speaking.
"I'm gonna be an Uncle?" He said, smiling widely. I nodded my head quickly as his arms wrapped my arms around my neck. I could here soft sobs escape his lips and I rubbed his back slowly to soothe him.
"We have to get this done. Okay? We have too." I said as I pulled away from our embrace. Kyle wiped the tears from his cheeks as he nodded his quickly.
"Yeah, it's up to us. For mom, dad, our grandparents, everyone."
A wide smile appeared on my face from the words that escaped from his lips and I pulled him into a tight hug once more.
"You guys okay?"
I glanced up to see Noah, Ben, Krista and Viktor standing there. Kyle and I exchanged a look before I spoke up.
"Yeah, we're good. Let's get inside."

As soon as we got to the front doors of the hospital, the six of us huddled around in a circle. My eyes darted around and scanned the area. There were a few abandoned cars in the lot, windows cracked and all. Some of the windows of the hospital were broken as well.
A warm breeze hit my skin which caused me to turn my attention back to everyone.
"Okay, so here's the plan. Viktor and I are gonna patrol the first two floors, Ben and Krista you guys do the other two floors, Kyle and Sam, scout the area." Noah said as he looked over at me.
"Okay, sounds like a plan." I gave a nod to Kyle and the two of us headed to the back of the building. The sun had finally set and it was pitch black out, well except for the street lamp in the distance. Kyle and I made our way around the building and inspected the emergency room entrance. Except for an abandoned ambulance, there wasn't anything else here.
A frustrated sigh escaped my lips as I shook my head turning to Kyle.
"This is a waste of time, he's not here. He can't be here." I huffed out before plopping down on one of the empty benches, my gazed focused on the night sky. You could see most of the stars now since there was barely any light around here.
"He has to be." Kyle replied. I turned to look at him and he took a seat next to me. "I know it in my gut, that he's around here somewhere. He couldn't have gone far."
I nodded my head in response, not knowing what else to say right now. All I could think about was the future. My baby's future. I didn't want him or her growing up in a world like we did or our parents or grandparents did. I want them to have a fun, free life. Explore the world without the fear of the government tailing your ass because you don't follow their stupid rules.
Today was the day that I was going to save us from this wretched world we live in. The moment I left home, I knew I had some sort of purpose. This was my purpose. My thoughts were soon interrupted when my walkie-talkie went off.
"Kyle? Sam? You guys there?" Krista's voice echoed out. I pulled my walkie talkie out of my belt and pressed the button to speak.
"Yeah, we're here. What's going on? You guys alright?" I asked. I turned my gaze over to Kyle, a concerned look on his face.
"We're okay, but guys have to come in here. Now."
I furrowed my eyebrows and Kyle gave a nod before the two of us rushed inside the building.

The two of us continued our way down the empty, quiet halls to meet up with the others. There were broken chairs, tables and windows all over the floor. Along with hundreds of paper. Judging from all the dust and debris, this hospital has been closed for years.
My walkie talkie went off again, this time Noah's voice coming through.
"We're downstairs, by the morgue."
"On our way." I replied as my eyes darted towards the signs to find our way down there. Kyle pointed to a set of staircases and quickly opened the door. Taking in a deep breath I held it for a moment before releasing a puff of air as I made my way down the stairs. The door shut behind us, echoing in the stairwell.
Our feet moved quickly but quietly as the two of us rushed down the stairs. Once we got to the bottom floor, I stared at the door in front of me. The sign next to it read Morgue.
"Come on, they're waiting for us." Kyle said as he opened the door. I made my way through and looked both ways before making my way towards the double doors.
