Chapter Chapter Thirty
Ten years later ....
Giggles erupted from the outside. A faint breeze blew in from the window causing the curtains to flutter. I took a sip of my coffee as I turned my gaze out the window and smiled at the sight in front of me.
Noah had a bright wide smile on his face, along with our daughter Chloe who was swinging. Ben and Krista's kid Charlie was running in circles around them. I took another sip of my coffee when Kyle walked in.
"Good morning." He said with a wide grin on his lips. He grabbed a mug from the cupboards and poured himself a cup of coffee before sitting across from me. The two of us sat in silence as we took in the quietness.
It had been a decade since the end of President Martin's reign, and a new era beginning. The world was now at peace, and everything was going back to the way we used to be, before the rules were enforced.
"I heard from Dad, that President Martin is on death row."
I turned my attention over to him and furrowed my eyebrows slightly.
"What? Why? I thought we agreed he'd be in there for life."
"That's what I thought too, I guess they changed their minds." He added with a shrug of his shoulders as he lifted his mug to his lips. I inhaled a sharp breath of air before exhaling slowly. Years ago we had decided not to kill him, even though a lot of blood had been spilled in this war. His death wouldn't have had any meaning or any impact.
"As long as he's been kept locked up, watching the world change, everything he and the past Presidents have done, I'm all good." I spoke up and leaned back against seat. My gaze shifted back over to the window and I could see Chloe and Noah sitting in the grass, the two of them engulfed in a conversation. A small smile formed on my lips as I let out a happy sigh.
"I'm just glad it's all over and our kids can live in a free spirited and safe world."
"Me too." Kyle responded with a smile.
We were finally in A New Era.
